Social Security office Reports & Reviews (236)

Received a robocall from a local number 662-536-9448 (Mississippi, most likely spoofed). Upon answering, got a voice recording that said "fraudulent activity using my social security number had been noted in the area." Pressed "1" to speak to an agent at the end of the message and someone finally answered the phone with "Hello, how may I help you?" in broken English with a Hispanic accent. No name or title was given; but when asked, he said his name was "unintelligible" as he said it so fast, his badge number was also "unintelligible," and that he was with the Social Security Office in South Texas. After asking questions about why the caller in Texas would want information from someone in Mississippi, the caller did not have much to say. No personal data or money was given out as the telephone call was then terminated since it appeared to be an obvious scam.

First some recording came on and said there was an issue with my social security and if I continued to ignore this problem I would be going against the law in front of a magistrate. (My husband passed in June and I have so many things I'm still dealing with, so I thought this could be real at first) Then to speak to someone to help, I clicked #1. This serious sounding man came on and asked to verify my name, so I did. Then he told me to get paper and a pen to write down this information. He told me he was an investigator with social security, and his name was Sean Hopper, and his ID number (SSA 85347) and he was based out of Maryland. Then he asked me to verify and provide my social security number. I immediately said, "NO! You should already have it-and you called me!" I said I would verify his number online and will call back. Then he hung up!!

Received a phone call stating that it was from the social security office letting me know that my benefits will be stopped and that if I want to stop being harassed and that I should hold on to the line or call them back. The line hung up after a while.

Received an automated call stating that my social security number had been suspended due to suspicious use

I didnt press 1 because I knew it wasnt the social security office because of the number they called from and the office sends me letters in the mail. So when i didnt press 1 they hung up on me.

I called this number back three times after receiving this voicemail stating: “Name and your social security number the moment you receive this message kindly call back at the earlier on our number before we begin with the legal proceeding 740-218-3769 I repeat 740-218-3769 ignoring this would be causing legal charges under your name thank you…“ Upon speaking to three different reps, all hung up on me after requesting to speak to a supervisor, and I’m sure one provided a false address in Houston.

I received a call from the Social Security Office and I was told that My Social Security number was compromised and I needed to be issued a new on. They went on to say that there was an abandoned vehicle in my name by the Mexican border and it was registered in my name. Then, I verified my name and social security number. I felt like it was a scam. The caller was female with a caribbean accent and lots of background noise in office.

- Crestview, FL, USA

This is my second call from the so called "Social Security Office", last one was on 18 Sept. 2020, which I know both are scams. This time it was a female voice (sound like a recording) that said I had my identity stolen on my social security card, so they have closed my Social Security account, i just hung up on the call. My fear is that there are so many people (especially elderly) that would fall for this. I decided that next time, I will just stay on the line and play mind games with them till they provide more information for the ScamPulse.com or they get mad and hang up. When I tried to call the number back to do this there was not voice mail set up (go figure). So, the saga continues.

- San Antonio, TX, USA

I received a call and was asked if i was the party they were looking for, they gave me my previous married name, they had my last 3 address locations correct. I asked for their contact info, I was given an ID number and a name, also the address to the Richland location in my area. I let them know i was jus down the street and I would drive over there immediately. At that time he proceeded to tell me that if i did not want to answer his questions to just hang up so I did.
