Received call from Social Security telling me someone is using my social and now they are canceling my social security benefits.

- Wichita, KS, USA

I received a call from social security admin who told me someone in Texas was using my social security number. The gentleman was speaking very soft and had an accent. I did not give them any information and hung up.

I received a voicemail from a gentleman with a heavy accent telling me that he works for the Social Security office and that my social security number has been used fraudulently and that if I didn't respond the judiciary system would be coming after me for the fraud but they didn't give any of my information. They gave me the above number to call them back but I didn't call it because I believed it to be a scam.

- Alice, TX, USA

The caller identified himself as an officer for the social security office. Stated that my name and social security number was used to rent a vehicle which was used to commit a crime. That the investigators were monitoring my phone calls. When I asked who in Texas do I contact about this matter because it sounds very fake. He hung up on me

I received 4 calls from one number and 2 calls from this number. I finally got a voicemail saying "your social security number has been suspended. you won't get a check this month unless you call this number. " I called and he asked for my name and social security number. I almost gave it to him, but suddenly i recognized his voice from a medicare scam call i had received and realized that this too was a scam. I called up and called Channel 7, and they said they too had received reports, but that I needed to report the scam to BBB. I called the Social security office just to be sure and then I reported the calls.

- Amarillo, TX, USA

The first phone call came at 7:12 this morning so I answered the phone call to give them a piece of my mind because it was so early and they informed me that I had suspicious activity on my social security number and to call them back. My husband then checked my credit report and found nothing and called the number. They said they were with the social security office so I called our local office to find out what was going on. The SSO asked for the number and said it was a scam. The SSO only uses 1-800 type numbers and the number I gave was not.

Larry Caldert called said she owed money to several people and that they were going to change her social security number if not paid. She gave them her social security number. Ask her how much money she had in the bank. She said she couldn't tell him that. Said she would be in trouble if you didn't answer questions. Said the sheriff would come. Said someone would come and change her social security number and she needed appointment for that.

Scammer said he was with social security administration and told me that my ssn was being used by others. He wanted my name and address and ssn. Scammer had a very foreign accent.

Robo call telling me my social security number could possibly be suspended because of so called suspicious activities.

Consumer Called:

Consumer received a call from the Social Security Office stating there were suspicious issues with their social security numbers and they needed to call right away before they will suspend them.

They called twice, left messages on answering machine. Requesting my social security number.

A woman named Amber called and said she was a social security advisor and then my phone cut her off. I think it cut off because I had blocked the phone number.

- Clearfield, UT, USA

Received 2 calls from this number. Robo voicemail left sounded somewhat legit (reverse number lookup showed low scam probability). Called back and was told it was the social security office and they needed my ssn. I didn’t make it past that (I laughed the guy off the phone).

Received phone call 877-570-8014 with recorded message, saying they were from Social Security Administration. Said someone had tried to open up an account using my information. I was to press #7 to connect with the caller. Caller was female. I did not continue the phone call.

- Dallas, TX, USA

Robo-call stating it's from the Social Security Office and there has been fraudulent items on my SS number. I was instructed to call a phone number 240-366-7582 and to put the last four(4) digits of my SS number in. If I did not call a warrant was going to be issued for me and I would be arrested.

Robo call came in from Maryland at 9 a.m. from an "officer" regarding my social security being compromised. I hung up.

- Boise, ID, USA

Consumer played the message for me "This is Officer Williams from the Social Security Office letting you know this is the final warning or your social security number will be suspended. Please call us back". This was a pre-recorded call.
