Social Security Department Reports & Reviews (33)

- Laredo, TX, USA

Received a telephone call from an automated system claiming to be a message from the "Social Security Department". They claimed my Social Security number is under investigation and to call them back immediately to verify my information. I know that the Social Security Administration will NEVER cold call anyone with a message asking for personal information, so I immediately blocked the number on my telephone and came here to pass along my experience, hoping it will help others to not fall for this robocall scam to steal your personal information.

Recorded message states it is the Social Security department and they have received notice I am being sued. I need to call 800-570-0353 right now to avoid being sued.

I answered a telephone call from an unknown number marked from El Paso, TX and received an automatic recording alerting me that there has been some type of criminal activity recorded with my social security information and that to call that number back immediately before they start an investigation. I've never received this type of call before, so I thought my social security had already been compromised based on this recording. So I called back and an "Officer so and so with the Social Security Services" answered and I told him about the recording that I just heard over the phone. He told me he would need some information in order to assess the situation, but before he could ask for any information, I asked to give me some more information about who he was, where the exact location he was calling from, with proper identification and work ID. I was already irate about the situation and spoke to this so-called officer in a rather harsh tone and he hung up. I tried calling back several times, but it seems my number was blocked as it wasn't going through. I tried calling this fraud agency back with a blocked number, but to no avail. I called the local police department to alert them of what is going on and I was referred to the Better Business Bureau.

When they called they left an electronic message that my social security number was used as fraudulent. Well I called back and they wanted my D.O.B and SSN and when I told him not till I knew what the call was about and he hung up immediately.

- Bixby, OK, USA

A phone number called from New York and when I answered it was an automated system advising that my Social Security Number has been compromised. It then transferred me to a man with a foreign accent claiming to be with the Social Security Department and that there had been fraudulent activity on my Social. He said that it was in association with money laundering and drug trafficking on the border of southern Texas. He then began to ask for my bank information. I disconnected the line but they called back under my caller ID as 911. I answered however it was the same man. I disconnected again.

Started calling 2 weeks ago.....get 2-3 calls a day. I called phone # and requested they take phone # off their records....person with Indian accent said they'd call me all the time/every day!

Received a robo phone call from 888-810-9057 stating “this is a courtesy call from the Social Security Department informing you that we have suspended your Social Security number due to suspicious activity. To learn more, press 1.

Luckily I suspected this was a bogus call. I hung up and dialed the Social Security Office directly and found out that it was, in fact, an imposter trying to get people to confirm their name and Social Security number for identify theft purposes.

- Webster, MA, USA

Robo voicemail stating my social security number has been suspended and to call to get more information.

- Independence, MO, USA

Said they were a police officer and their was a crime using my social security number.

- Littleton, CO, USA

Constant calls, 9 plus a day, and voicemails of an automated message saying your to call this number because your social secuirty number is to be suspended.

- Arlington, TX, USA

Left the following message on my voice mail it was an electronic call. "When you get this message kindly call back to us at the earliest possible before we begin with legal proceedings." When I called said they were social security and that my SS number had been detected related to fraudulent activity. They asked my name--I gave it probably stupid but wanted to see where which was going. Asked for my social and I refused to give it. Told him I didn't think he was with social security so asked for his name and ID number (usually this gets me a dial tone), but he responded Gary Cooper IOM 2576 (Indian accent with an actors name real original). He said he had to have my social to verify my identity--I told him he should have it and he said he did but just needed to verify. I then proceeded to tell him what I thought of him and said I would call SS to verify his legitimacy. Putting this one in here because he was more persistent and believable than most.

On Wednesday, May 16, 2018 I received a phone call from an unknown caller. My phone is set to not accept any calls from numbers not in my contacts so it went straight to my voicemail. The message was one of those that are on a constant repeat so when my voicemail started to record part of the message had already been played. Here is what I received. The message started out with what sounded like a word ending in "est" or "rest" then went on to say the fallowing---"and we have received legal notice from The Federal Crime and Invesgtigation Department to blacklist your social security number. Again this call is from Social Security Department and the number to the devision is (214) 613-8738.

The recording was the voice of a female but it sounded like a computerized voice. It didn't sound like a real person. When I called the number which is not in my listing of The Social Security Department I have on my phone, (I have everyone that is associated with Amarillo and Texas) it answered with another recording of a man who sounded like he was from India saying that I had reached the customer service department of the Social Security Department and that there was no one available to answer my call. To please leave a message and my call would be returned as soon as possible.

A woman called my 90 years old mother and said she was from the Social Security Department and that her account had been erased. They asked her for her social security number, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of her credit union account number. They asked for her routing number, my mom was taking a long time, and they hung up. I called them back, and they answered hello, then she said she was with a credit company. I told her I was reporting her and she hung up. The woman had a slight accent. Caller ID said Kingston, Jamaica. This is not the first call we've received from this number. They called last week, and hung up on them because caller ID said Jamaica.
