I was contacted through email by Alex Snyder, claiming to be a recruiter. He stated that he had seen my profile on the Indeed Job Board and thought I would be a good fit for a remote accounts payable position with the company. He provided a Microsoft Teams link and asked me to contact the company's Hiring Manager, Melinda Kimbro for next steps. On Teams, Ms. Kimbro introduced herself, provided the company's website, and conducted an instant text interview. I was asked to reach back out the next morning for an update. After reaching back out, I was informed that I had been hired and that they were going to send me a check to be used to purchase software and office equipment through an approved vendor. The check arrived via FedEx on the third day. At this time, I used ChatGPT to look into whether this may be a scam. I called the phone number provided on the official company website and was informed that the job does not exist and that the process had been a scam.
