1) 89 are definitely ‘Out of Business’.
2) 159 are definitely ‘Not a Book Store’. This includes businesses such as tax preparers, bookkeepers, educational providers, etc.
3) 28 are other book publishers.
4) 153 are Comics-only stores.
5) 17 are charities
6) 10 are authors selling their books.
7) 56 are specialist Antiquarian bookstores.
8) 44 are Used bookstores.
9) 21 are other oddball types of businesses such as a literary agent, 4 book reviewers, an events company, etc.
So, in total 577 or 44.55% of these 1,295 entries fall outside of our requirements, leaving 55.45% that might be useful, that is bookstores that buy new books.
I have been working through a subset of the possibly useful entries, identified in my first pass-through, that appeared to be bookstores that sell a wide variety of new books. I have worked through 246 of these and found the following:
a) I have sent 181 emails of which 39 hard bounced, or 21.55%.
b) 15 records were for executives at the corporate headquarters of Barnes & Noble, Nook Digital, and Books-A-Million.
c) The remaining 50 were contacts who shared their physical addresses with other people that I contacted.
So out of 246 contacts, at best 142 (181-39), or 57.72% may have received the email I sent.
So, combining the above results, I estimate that this list might be 55.45% of 57.72% or 32% effective. And that is with me having to manually interrogate every single list entry.
This is without a shadow of a doubt the worst marketing list I have ever seen in the past 34 years of direct sales and business experience.
