I applied for a job through Indeed. The job was titled "DATA ANALYST AND RECEPTIONIST POSITION AVAILABLE" in all caps. I was not able to apply directly through Indeed so I do not hold Indeed responsible for any wrongdoing. The job posting on Indeed required that I apply on an external website. I believe this is so that a person cannot report the job posting through Indeed using their reporting tools. After applying for the job I get an email (shortly after applying) from an email address "[email protected]" that simply stated "Hello Applicant, Attached are instructions necessary to begin the interview process. Best of luck". That's it. No name from the person listed in the email, nothing. The email included an attachment (a Microsoft Word doc) that read "Hello Applicant, We are pleased to inform you that your resume has been approved for the Remote Data Entry position. The pay is $35/hr. (full and part time) key responsibilities will include: 1.Transferring data from paper documents into computer files or databases using keyboards, data recorders, or optical scanners. 2. Verifying data by cross-referencing it with source documents. If you are interested in scheduling a meeting, kindly follow the steps below: 1. download Microsoft Teams to your device and connect with the Hiring Manager via Microsoft Teams by Joining the interview via this link: https://teams.live.com/l/invite/FEABIN-1TPOkB7E7I0 2. Send a message and ensure you get a response on how to schedule an interview. NOTE: Venue: Online via MICROSOFT TEAMS Time: 10 AM - 4 PM PST. Date: March, 14th 2025 Kind regards H. R. Department. As soon as our servers are updated, we will provide a link to our server along with a username and password for access. You will also receive a list consisting of contact to various departments. Here's an overview of what to expect as part of our team: Benefits (eligible after 60 days): - Dental and AD&D Insurance. - Employee Wellness Programs. - 401(k) Plans. - Paid Time Off and Holidays. - Health Insurance. I did receive a check the next day via FedEx Express for $2,800.00 dollars. Strange enough, it came from a person named "Andy Mark" and a company named Amex Lighting Inc. The address the check came from was 10267 Sante Fe Springs Rd, Sante Fe Springs, CA 90670. Google shows there is a company called "Amax Lighting" at this address but the person clearly wrote "Amex Lighting" on the FedEx form. PLUS, the FedEx envelope had a letter with deposit instructions from a person named "Jerry Edmon" that was printed on plain paper without any company logo, company address, nothing. The checked looked extremely legit however - it was even printed with a "heat sensitive" security feature and had all the markings of an official check. I then called the bank that the check was drawn on and stated that it was a "Cashier's Check" and I wanted to verify funds. The bank asked for the check number and said that the number did not match their sequencing. The check showed a remitter named as "Timothy D. Alskog" but no other identifiable information since the check was made to look like a Cashier's Check drawn on the bank. I gave the agent the account number on the check but they could not give out, nor confirm any account information. The agent was very nice and after explaining how I received the check the agent basically said that it was VERY likely to be fraudulent and DO NOT deposit under any circumstance. The agent said it sounded like it would be a "Check Kiting" scam. The agent said that if I deposited the check, the scammers have a way of deducting the money from the account and it would overdraw my account and if I did not have the money in my account to cover it, then I would be responsible for it.

My other research included this information: The company "Praan" has a website address of www.praan.io and is based in India. The HQ address for the company in India is 2A Ujagar Infotech, Chembur, Mumbai 400088A. Google search on this address shows it is "Temporarily Closed" and the Google "Street View" image (taken MAR2024) really doesn't show enough to confirm that Praan even exists. Also, Google maps doesn't have an info-pin or location-pin showing an actual company known as Praan at this location. THEN, the address for the HQ in the U.S. (2261 Market Street, Unit 5071, San Francisco, CA 94114) is a local dropbox business (like a UPS Store). Any communication from Praan does not have a person's name on it AND the emails have come from other domains except for praan.io or something more official. The first email I received came from "Frank Larson" [email protected] - then a welcome letter came from "Praan Talent Acquisition" [email protected] - the check that was sent to me came from the physical address mentioned above, and the letter that was included in the FedEx envelope (from Jerry Edmon) stated that I had to reply to the email address [email protected] or [email protected] with a copy of the deposit slip once deposited. So the accounting department has an AOL address, really?!?! The letter even stated that I must reply from a personal email address and not an employer's email.

Hope this info helps protect someone else out there to avoid these disgusting people!
