I was contacted by phone on a local number at first (304) 990-6145. It shows up as Glen Dale, WV. A gentleman by the name of "Jerry Ortiz" said that he was calling from POS Services (a debt collector) to resolve a payday loan I took out from EZ Corp/EZ Money in 2013. They told me the address where I was living at that time & told me the debt had been sold to four different companies for collection. They knew my current address. I didn't remember taking out a loan ten years ago, but as I recall having financial difficulties at that time I thought it could be possible it was valid. However, thinking it could be a scam, I asked for the address and contact information for POS services so I could verify that it was legitimate. While he was on the phone with me, I tried to look up POS Services online and came up with nothing substantial. I asked for their website and he said it was "down". He said if I don't make a payment today I will be served with a court summons. I said if the debt is mine, I definitely want to take care of it out of court, but that I want to be sure I am not sending money to a scammer. As I was talking all this out trying to figure out my options, he pressured me by saying he was just going to hang up and send the summons in the mail since I obviously didn't want to take care of it. He said I'd have to go to court and that my wages would be garnished. I asked him to send me something that verified the legitimacy of the debt, but he said that once I made a payment, I would receive an email in 5-10 minutes. Against my better judgment, but also out of fear of having to go to court or having my employer know about this, I made the 1st of 3 settlement payments using my credit card. I got a generic email from [email protected] from someone named Marsha Rosen at Complaint Resolution. My attempts to call Ms. Rosen at her number (855) 700-2569 took me to a voicemail for someone named "Samantha". I emailed her asking for verification, but got nothing. I called EZ Corp & they have no record of me being a client of theirs. I called my bank and blocked my debit card. "Jerry Ortiz" called me this morning from (855) 204-4178 saying that my payment did not go through.
