I had a message on my answering machine with this message "Hi, this is a courtesy call from physician's billing. If you could return our call at your earliest convenience, 775-7514 and reference patient [6 digit number] Thank you." I called and got a voice mail asking for personal information and the message on my answering machine and the voicemail I reached had odd inflections in the lady's voice that made it sound like she was not being honest. I left out the 6 digit number just in case it is legit but I doubt it is. I searched the phone number on the internet and it is a cell number from Palmer, Alaska and I didn't see it being associated with any physician billing company. I did not leave a message on the voicemail I reached because it sounded suspicious and I didn't want to violate HIPAA laws by giving out information to the wrong people. I am a caregiver for an individual with developmental disabilities and the message was left on the answering machine at the group home and appears to be directed at the individual living here but as staff I can filter through the messages to protect the individual. The individual may have medical bills due but his guardian takes care of that at another address and phone number. If it was a real billing business I would think that it would be coming from a business landline and not a cell phone.
