I applied for a job with AppenUSA Talent. I went through a virtual bot interview after that about 30 minutes later the HR Manager Carla, offered me the job, did a background check, set up direct deposit with all my banking information, I paid for the course and software activation keys, and stopped when they wanted me to pay $200 for shipping costs. I cannot get anyone to respond to me now except an IT Specialist that keeps telling me to contact my HR.

I applied for the position of Data Entry Clerk and thought the hourly pay was a good rate. The company is Appen USA Talent. I was already skeptical once I saw that the interview would be done in either Teams, Messenger chat, or on a website. I decided to give it a try anyway. It seemed legit as they sent a message on the platform that I'll be using for my interview question and answers and the questions were also very legit and did not ask for any sort of personal information. I finished and got an offer letter within 30 minutes. I was prompted to accept/decline the offer and proceed with the onboarding process, which consists of providing personal information and a background check. The background check asks for a government issued ID and social security number, which is where I stopped in the process. However, I did read where other individuals have provided such information and was prompted to pay for the courses and software.

Fake employment opportunity which you have to pay for the background check and the online courses afterwards.

Possible scam. This is coming from someone who has a lot of work from home experience, and this does not seem to be the "usual employment scam" Some part of the process does move like they could be legitimate and most scammers don't move that way but then it starts to become obvious. The website start out as Appenusa.com. Once you go to careers and click on position you want to apply for, another website comes up and says appenusatalent.com. That is a red flag. The company logos changes too. When you initially go to appenusa.com, click on contact. You see a list of contact info from support [email protected] but once you sign up for a virtual interview or interview through chat ai and successfully complete that, you receive an email of a job offer and that email is different. It is [email protected]. Things moved relatively fast. I got the job offer email within 1 hour of the interview. The I9 process moved fast and seemed lenient too compared to the usual I9 process which can be lengthy. They ask method of pay. Most work from home companies does ask for that up front and when I told them my bank, the ai generated asked the name of my bank toward the end of the ai chat. That was a red flag. No company ask that verbally during any form of interview. They only ask that while completing the I9 forms and completing the direct deposit form.

So, I went through the Appen USA onboarding thinking it was a legitimate job offer letter, a friend did research for me and turned out the website was fraudulent. I went through the entire onboarding process, but never did the courses that they had to make me pay for. So, I provided my SSN, bank details, phone number, and everything but never did the courses because I thought it was legitimate.

I keep getting approached to finish an onboarding with a company calling itself Appen USA Talent. I wrote to them multiple times telling them that they are being referred to as a scam online, but they just keep sending me emails ignoring my information and telling me to finish my onboarding. Luckily, because of other good people online, I have been able to avoid losing any money with these people, but someone needs to do something about this because it is my understanding that you pay for one course for 37.00 or something like that, and then they ask you for another 200.00! Please stop this scam!!!

Applied for work from home positions. Signed on to do allotted interview but no one was there. Emailed and gotten a response to sign on a different link to take assessments due to high volume of people applying. Did assessment for English speaking and received an offer on Oct 6,2025 with start date Oct 20. After uploading required documents for background check, that’s when they recommended courses you’d have to pay for. Responded to email within background check asking for updates but no response.

I heard about the job from a work from home influencer on TIK TOK. I applied for a job and completed on boarding process. Uploaded ID, Social Security Card, Verified Address via Bank Statement. Set-up Direct Deposit. The sent an offer Letter with explanation of benefits. Website has a dashboard you have to complete one onboarding task before you can access the next one. Once I go to the training portion they ask for money for the three separate 10 minute training videos and the pay its approx. 39.99 per training. I discovered from others online that they ask for more money later down the line to have equipment shipped and to download software. I also tried to send a message via the chat box on on their website but it did not work.
