I was contacted by Patrica Thomas on Roomster. Since I was starting school in LA, I was desperate to find a rental within my budget. She sent me an email with pictures of the place. I was asked to secure the lease by sending a month’s rent and the security deposit. I sent 1400 dollars to two separate bank accounts via the Zelle app. Since I authorised the funds there’s no way of recovering my money. I received a receipt and also a lease agreement. I am doubtful if those documents are genuine. Following this, we kept in touch via texts where she continued to ask to make advance payments for rent and promised that she would give a discounted rent amount. However, I didn’t. I was supposed to move in on August 1st., and I didn’t receive the keys or any communication and was also asked to send money for the keys to be sent via mail and sent her money through cryptocurrency since she claimed to be in Puerto Rico. I have filed a complaint with my banks but I have no place to move into and no money. I am absolutely flabbergasted and really need to secure funds to find a place to live in.
