Booking a Marriott hotel in Cancun, somehow I ended up on a site that looked real. I placed the reservation and received a confirmation. About a week later I checked the Marriott in Cancun and did not have a reservation. I then looked at the original ReservationCenter email (from hotelvalues.com) and saw a number of additional fees and a cancel fee of $190. I cancelled and will receive a refund of $73. I then made a reservation with the REAL Marriott website at a much lower price.

I made the original reservation in haste and did not review the details. It is mostly my fault. I am at a loss as to how I was redirected to the reservationcenter/hotelvalues.com (and there appears to be a third redirect to getaroom.com). I was using google maps so maybe that was the redirect. I tried to recreate the steps I took (maps.google.com, click on the hotel, make a reservation) but never redirects to the reservationcenter/hotelvalues website.

I don't think there is much ScamPulse.com can do other than document this and warn clients to review the website URL before entering a reservation.
