My dad was trying to access the Lowe’s website when he said he got a pop up saying he’d been hacked with a robo voice repeating things like “your computer has been compromised, do not turn off your computer, call support”

There was a number on the pop up that he called who claimed to be Microsoft Support. As soon as I saw the number myself I knew this wasn’t true, it was an Atlanta area code. The man identified himself as “Zak” and had my dad download a program called UltraViewer, which gave the scammer remote control access to the computer. He had him launch terminal but I don’t know what commands he had him execute, if any. At this point I overheard enough of the phone call and stepped in right as he asked my dad about his credit cards. I told him to hang up and uninstalled the remote software right away. The scammer called back immediately and left a message saying to call him back right away to finish what they started. He gave up after four calls. My dad is nearly 80 but pretty aware of this stuff for his age, I really don’t know how he fell for this but it angers me how these scammers take advantage of the elderly like this. It’s tax season and a three day weekend and they obviously bank on those things too.

While on the internet I had a message pop up saying my IP address had been stolen and that my computer was being locked up. I was to call Microsoft Support immediately at 1 (844) 294-5005. I called and the person did not sound professional and when I asked how I knew he was support he said that he supports Microsoft and I can trust him. He then told me to hold down the windows key and press ctl button which brought up a run application bar. I was then instructed to type anydisk and hit ok. I stoped at this point before hitting ok and googled support number for Microsoft. It was not the right number pano hung up. I was then contacted numerous times in a row, seconds apart until I finally blocked the number. I rebooted my computer and did a virus scan on it and it was ok.

I was on the internet and my screen locked and it started flashing say Micro Soft support detected a hack of my system. There was a number to call. When I called I asked what company I was talking to. They told me micro soft support and I had been hacked. They accessed my computer and told me they could fix it and would put hyper security on my system. I sent them a copy of a check that they told my would be the cost. they then told me the check did not go through. So the told me to get 2 $200 Apple pay cards and give them the numbers off the cards. They then told me the cards did not go through and they would put the $400 back in my account. They then said they made a mistake and put $1000 back in my account and wanted me to get more apple pay cards for the $600 over payment. I told them I wanted to check with the bank to verify the $1000 went into the account. They then said I needed to give them the $600 now or they would keep my computer locked. I then told them I would not until I could verity the bank had the money. they made all kinds of threats and told me to call back in a couple of hours and hung up the phone. I then called the bank and the check had not cleared and there was not a $1000.00 deposit to my account. I changed my passwords and my desk top is gone but the programs are still available by going to my start menu. The supposed Tech's names are Michael Dawson Emp ID #MS9863296; Clay Jensen Emp ID# MS563213

Recieved a call on my Voicemail stating they are Microsoft Support and unless I call 422-528-1709 I would be charged $399.00 renewal.

- San Antonio, TX, USA

I received a phone call today, January 27,2020 (10:38 a.m. CST) with a recording saying that my credit card was being charged by Microsoft Support unless I called the number (866-261-4631) back to cancel. I did not call the phone number back but instead called the MS Support Center from the phone number I found online (1-800-574-2028) for George West, TX. I was only able to leave a voice mail at their request and am waiting for a return phone call. I have no email or image to provide because it was a phone call.

Yesterday while I was on my computer, all of a sudden my laptop froze. The image listed the following # for me to call - 888-334-0953. It stated the website was from Microsoft Support.

After calling and spending well over 30 minutes speaking to someone with very broken English, the person stated "We can fix your computer but first we need to charge one of your accounts $199.

I said "To verify your organization, I will call you back at a different number before I pay the $199.

The person then began almost begging me to first pay the amount so they can initiate the procedure to "clean up" my computer. After several minutes of arguing I hung up, very angry with myself.

After getting this email i called on the number which is mentioned in the email to cancel the charge which is $747. But the Technician "John"

said that he is the Boss of the company and you need support with Network & Support.

I told him that I have my own Technician from last couple of years and i don't need any support. But he said that in order to remove you from our record or system that we need to verify some information which included my Full Name , address , email, phone number, Credit card. So i was thinking that if i will give him all information so may be he will remove me from his system or from Financial Department. So i gave him all my information including my D.O.B. He also took access of my Computer with the help of Team Viewer and Show my PC software. After 1 hour conversation i hung up on him because i was very frustrated because they way that he was talking was relentless and rude.I did not give him my SSN information.

After this when i checked my Bank statement so i found there is a fake charge for $1003.99 from WORLDREMIT DENVER CO 802020000

» $1,003.99 on 08/07/2019 which is saying Pending Status. So then i called my bank and told them the whole story and they blocked my Debit Card.

Got a recording stating they were from Microsoft Support and I purchase some of their tech support. All I need to do is call them back. Well I haven't purchase anything from one lately and I wasn't calling their number back.

- Honolulu, HI, USA

Caller posed as Microsoft support, claiming they were from a New York call center, and had been told by my computer to call me. I asked why it was from a Hawaii area code, they repeated they were from New York and had poor English. I would not converse with them any further, but I believe they are phishing for passwords or possibly credit card numbers.

I received a robo phone call. The message said it was from Microsoft telling me that their consumer support service was closing and that my contract with them could be refunded. I don't have any IT support contract with anyone. I was told to press 1 for a refund. I just hung up.

Message left saying my Microsoft service was ending and I needed to call “now” their number to avoid having $299.00 taken out of my checking account. Very urgent and threatening sounding. Number on ID and message was, 1-801-890-3659 with random numbers and letters as the name. One minute earlier same random name called with phone number 1-878-201-9383 but left no message.

Thought I would report this, my mother fell for this last year and they still call her from time to time, elderly people are at such risks. They don’t understand the concept of letting the machine get it!!! Thanks for all you do.

My elderly dad received a call stating that $299 would be drawn out of his checking account if he didn't call and cancel the service. I called the number, on his behalf, and immediately knew it was a scam because of the way they answered the phone. When I asked what service they were providing, they refused to provide the information. The lady I spoke with hung up on me after telling me the money had already been withdrawn from the bank account...I had not provided a name, nor was I calling from the phone number they had originally called. I called back and a man answered the phone. I told him to quit calling my parents making the threats. I gave him the phone number called, however, when I refused to give him a name, he stated that he couldn't help me without a name so he also hung up on me. Seems the key may be to not reveal your name???

The online warning came with a red screen and a warning that someone was trying to access financial information on my computer. They called themselves microsoft support and gave the number 1-888-259-4966. The computer screen locked and I had to power down to unlock my screen.

I don't know if this is a legitimate company or not. This number was on my computer as support. I got a message telling me I was going on to a porno site and asking me to call a phone number-I knew this was probably a scam so I called this so called support number. They charged me $200.00 to remove the message and since my computer was having multiple other problems such as running really slow I allowed them to fix that problem also. They insist I stay on the computer while they look into all kinds of screens. Have me on the computer for over 2 hours but it is running slower than ever. Tonight I get a call that they are getting an urgent message from my computer that someone is on my system. I told them I was busy and couldn't get on right now. They were very insistent that I had to let them on. I asked them "do you work for me or what??? I told you I am busy right now. Please investigate this for me. They have added their company icon to my system so I can reach them right away if I have a problem but they are so pushy I really feel I have been scammed.

Microsoft has locked me out of my computer saying my password is incorrect In which I've had this computer for some time and never had an issue and now they want to charge me $65 to fix the problem after I followed all the online instructions that they asked me to on the computer and reset my password there still locking me out and said the only way they can fix it if I pay $65 and sign a subscriptions for $14.99 a month for ongoing technical support this is a scam

We logged into Facebook and a voice message came on telling us hackers were accessing our credit card information right now through a virus so we need to enter our password or call 1-866-307-9527. The voice message said it was from Microsoft Support. It sounded serious so I called the number to see what was going on and a guy named Mike Lucas with a very thick middle-east accent had no idea why I had called. I told him I wanted to verify the issue with Microsoft and he told me I could do whatever I wanted to do. So I'm reporting this to the BBB.

My father received a message that his computer had been compromised and to contact Microsoft. He was tricked into giving them remote access to his computer. He was told for anti virus protection he would have to pay $500 in prepaid gift cards. A couple of the cards allegedly didnt work, so he was instructed to buy more. He said no, they changed the password on the computer and wrote a message to call 315-688-8206
