I got a text with a name ALMOST mine (I have a rather unique name, so it caught me off guard), talking about a loan request I'd supposedly made. They claimed to be Nancy from Mayline, and wanted me to call a different number ((855)417-7888).

Received a text from someone claiming to be Nancy from Mayline, "following up on a loan request" I never made. She addressed me by name, and asked if she could call now. The text provided a number for me to call 855-417-7888, and instructed me to reply with a good time for her to call or to reply STOP to opt out.

Person named Nancy claimed to be with Mayline following up on a loan request. Wanted to know if I could call now. Used my maiden last name as my first name. Full text, with my name redacted for privacy, read “ Hi [Smith], this is Nancy with Mayline, Following up on loan request. Can I call now? Call (855) 417-7888 or reply with a time. STOP to End” The number in the text message was different than the number that I received the text from.
