The scammer posed as the founder of Kavango Resources LLC, a "company" that operates as a mineral exploration company. The Company focuses on the development of copper, nickel, and PGE metal properties. Kavango Resources serves customers in Southern Africa and United Kingdom (KAV:LN0.68GBp). They post themselves on the London Stock Exchange. I did my due diligence and researched the "company", scoured their website, read "revenue reports", looked at Bloomberg, the London Stock Exchange, etc. We "interviewed" over Teams and I accepted their project manager offer at $75.47/hour. I immediately received a contract offer and a W-2 to complete. The next day Donald McAlister & I had a meeting to talk about next steps. He told me I would have an in-person trainer after I ordered the equipment I needed. They would send me a check, I'd deposit it, and take 5% out as my "signing bonus", and the rest I'd transfer in Bitcoin to the supplier of the computer and office essentials. Skeptical, I still did but put the money into a separate checking account. The next day he told me I needed some software that would cost an additional $6,900 and to follow the same steps with the 2nd check he sent. My bank confirmed what I had been skeptical about and we froze my accounts and both of the checks came back returned. The checks were cut under "DiVinci Painters" through Lake Forest Bank & Trust in Lake Forest, IL. When I questioned this, "Donald" told me that they work through an "affiliate" in the US to manage their accounting because of the currency difference. I messaged "Donald" through Teams to tell him that he's been discovered, it's a scam, and to terminate my "contract" immediately to which he immediately replied my contract would be terminated when I returned the $6,900 check.
