Used a phony name to begin with: Bruce Ellington ([email protected] - he was a Wide Receiver for the Houston Texans.) Then she sent me exactly the same email as above (out of town, certified check, Extra $50 to hold the item, daughter's wedding, etc.) At this point, she called herself Judi Smith (at the Lakeisha email address.) She wanted to know if I was "honest" and could be trusted to pay her movers ("I hope you are honest and reliable to handle the movers/pick up funds.")
In this email, she referred to the item (120 lb. piece of furniture) as the "package." She also noted that she had other "properties" to move besides mine...
I began to get very suspicious at this point and as soon as I questioned these things, she became unresponsive...

Said they would buy my treadmill via Craigslist, sent a fake money order. The money order was mailed from Texas. But exactly the same email address and exactly the same email, they obviously just send out hundreds of emails through Craigslist. I have reported them to the FBI.

I thought something was amiss when I got an email from Lakeisha, who wanted to purchase my Sony A7 camera listed on Craigslist in the Minneapolis Metro area. At first, she stated that she was interested and wanted to know if the camera was still available and ask that I respond to her email address at [email protected]. I responded stating it was still available; she sent a return email stating she was busy preparing a wedding for her daughter and would send me a certified bank check for the amount plus an extra $75 to hold it until she could make arrangements to pick it up. I responded, no thanks, cash only, and haven't heard back from her.

Received an email regarding my post of Craigslist. Was asked about the product I’m selling and then sent this in a email to me telling me I would receive a cashiers check . I came on this website and found this same email as a scam .

I'm selling my 32' extension ladder on Craig's List for $200. This party expressed interest, stating they had too many activities to be able to pick it up in person. Instead, they proposed sending a check for the ladder plus funds for a shipper that will pick up said ladder.
Quote: "I have a friend who will manage me a low price shipping and I assumed that I will include the shipper's funds along with your payment. So when you receive the check, get your item fee and the rest goes to the Shipper so that it will be delivered directly to my house. Please i'll appreciate it if you can always reply to my email so as to be assured that everything is perfect between."
E-mails are verbose, are persistent, with poor spelling and no clear details / directions. I received the check today - FOR $2,250! I've e-mailed them asserting that this appears to be a scam (that being before I even found this website). Purported pick-up is this weekend. I will be voiding the check and returning it to sender. Pictures provided of check. E-mail chain also available.

They offered to buy a bedroom set that we put on craigslist.Their emails were written very sloppy and it was hard to understand. We had the bedroom set on sale for 1750 and they sent a check for 4758.78 saying that we needed to give the rest to the movers when they came to get our bedroom set. The check is from a bank in Kansas, they have an Oregon phone number, and the check was mailed in Florida.
