- Detroit, MI, USA

First contact came to me on my personal email which read:

Good Morning, I hope you are doing well. I'm April Hodge, and I'm The Weather Group's director of human resources. We were impressed by your experience on LinkedIn and would like to invite you to an interview for the role of podcast editor. This interview's objectives are for us to learn more about you and for you to ask any questions you may have. We want to make sure that the position and our company's culture align with your objectives. Looking forward to your response shortly! I responded and got pdf literature of the Weather Channels background, (the docs look very real / watermarked and real logos/ address / etc and very specific information about the job, hours, software, hardware requirements and of gear they would send me to work with.

Then came an invitation to join April on Microsoft Team Chats where I did lengthy chat interview which I thought seemed bizarre at the time but still somewhat acceptable as I had heard of these style cases before. The interview all seemed legit. They were strong questions. Correct English but some very high energy demanding requests to respond with DONE each time I finished a question. For example - "You will respond with DONE" and "Are We Clear?" All seemed a little intense but I figured they brought me onto this secure chat sight they must have a timeline and are following through with policy.

I was asked questions like: Why is this podcast editing job important to you? Any strengths / weaknesses? What sets you apart from other candidates. Why do you believe you are the best fit and should have you on our team? Etc and on and on for nearly an hour.

I was then instructed to standby the next day for a call from Max Wolfram

(cell number that he called me from: 762-315-7536) Head of Communication and HR. He would update me on the status. Mind you they were very detailed and pretty communicative about everything so it seemed somewhat legit.

Got the call from "Max" and it sounded like he was driving in a car with the windows down. He spoke fast and his English wasn't great and rambling off some corporate jargon that all sounded somewhat policy standard. He asked me to rate the interview! Then asked me to rate how I did on the interview. Gave me a few more breakdowns of how impressed he was with my responses and said are you ready for the good news?! I said yeah give it to me! You're hired! I said wow that was fast! I was then asked to report back with April on Microsoft Chats to respond and get the paperwork going.

I knew at that point it was a bit fishy but figured I'd gone this far maybe there's a chance and more temped just to see what they would send me in the next steps. Which was another email from April sending me W4 / Application Letter / and Banking Direct Deposit info. Which looks pretty fishy.

I asked April if she would mind sending me a phone contact and could we speak. She sent me this number 720-414-0515 of which I called and someone answered which sounded like a man trying to speak like a woman and said "Hello" but then fumbled and hung up. I called back and they answered and just sat without speaking. I chatted and she said I called you back but couldn't hear you. I said I think this is a scam.

Her reply: "However, what do you mean by getting scammed? if that’s what you’re expecting then I’m sorry to inform you that we are a reputable institution and we don’t involve in shady activities"

Needless to say it was a time consuming process that took nearly 5 maybe 6 hours of my time and theirs. I didn't send any bank or personal information but did give up quite a bit of info of myself in the interview. Just a heads up. Be Safe everyone.
