Required information about touring a rental through Zillow. A person claiming to be the owner arrange for me to tour the house. Scary part is they were able to open the door that had a code. Price sounded to good to be true. But i filed out an application and paid 20 dollar. Person sent me a contract and everything. Thankful i looked up there email and saw they were a scammer.

This person contacted me stating she had a rental house at 1914 S.E. 20th street, Topeka, Kansas. She asked me to send her $60 through Chime to process the application. After sending her the money, I received an email from Zillow saying I had been approved. She then asked me to send her the $1]000 deposit and stated she will proceed with the lease agreement and I would have to get it printed from my email. When I told her I was not about to give her $1]000 without doing a "walk through" of the property with her, she advised me she could not give a walk through everytime someone wants to see the property because she is too busy with the grandkids. I went to see the property and looked through the window and there was no sign on the property indicating the house was for rent. However google shows the house is on the market for sale. Also, there is a sign in the house laying on the ljvingroom floor that says the house is for sale and Remax is the real estate agency that is handling the sale of the property.

He had posted a listing for a house for rent on Facebook. They took pictures off of opendoors website and claimed to be the house owner. He said that he and his wife had to relocate for work and he was trying to rent the house out. He sent an application for the property over email that was filled out on jotform.com. After that he had us go out to the house. He walked us through the steps to use opendoor's site to unlock the electric lock. Then he told us that it was 1900 to move in and 500 to change out the lock. After i sent him the money and he sent me a rental lease agreement but when it came time to tell me how to program the locks he stopped answering my calls and texts.

My mother-in-law was contacted through text by an individual claiming to own a home that was for rent. They asked for a $100 application fee, which she did pay through cash app. When she went to the home, she was supposed to put in a code on the door lock, but it would not work, and she was not able to get inside of the home. The person claimed to be the homeowner and says his name is Jose Roberto. We later checked the site on the property, appraiser website and found that it was owed actually by a property best investment company. At home is listed on other websites for rent for a much higher amount. According to the scammer, he was saying that the amount listed on other sites is if you want to rent to own the house, however he was renting it for half the price if it was only rental and not rent to own. She contacted him back and told him she wanted her $100 sent back to her cash app but has not received it as of yet. Any properties listed for rent by the scammers phone number should be removed. It is believed that the individual is likely from another country . He actually said that he was currently out of the country because his son was sick. I just want other people to be aware. Thank you.
