Type of a scam Home Improvement
In March a warmer day 8am the repair team show up they come to replace the roof today. Three man, two dressed in orange construction uniform, one has brownish skin, moustache, glasses, ****** **** **** ******* smooth talking around 45 years, he was the boss. Other man younger around 35, white skin, slim, same uniform ****** **** **** *******. Third man kind of white or pale, younger, ****** ****** ******** ***** ******* ******, slim body, blue jacket. He was working on the roof removing shingles with shovel and drop it to the side of the house. Around noon they only removed 1/4 of the shingles and covered that area with blue tarps nailed to roof and two of them came inside to show us the video how the plywood is wet and rotten and they cannot replace shingles unless they replace it all and it will cost us $20 000.- total. We told them we cannot afford that cost. They said they will talk to the boss to get a better deal and they will call back in 2 days. The team left with $2500 deposit. Nobody called us back so in 2 days we called that number, answering machine first and afternoon somebody answered the phone. He said his name Mike Evans -fake name. I asked the business address, he said it is on the flyer. Hi promised they will come back next week and finish the roof.
At that time it was something fishy so we visited that fake business address not far from us and it was a private house not that business. After that we reported to local police station this scam. Checked that website on whois and it was created 2025-01-09 no name no address who created it. IP Location Massachusetts - Boston. I have security camera videos of them. They came with a older F150 Ford pickup truck with step-ladders. No license plate number. That video what they show us how bad is my roof it was a fake video not of my roof. We called a real roofing company who replaced the shingles properly, nothing was wrong with the roof plywood. To me it is a professional scam operation maybe Canadian but could be USA based. Advice: be careful, no deposit, pay when the job is done.
Thanks so much.
