Company representative came to the door and offered a free roof inspection. He found some broken shingles and said he would repair them for $600 and come the next day to do the work. He came the next day and replaced some shingles, and said there was damage under the shingles and said more work needed to be done - he would replace all of the shingles and some rotten plywood for $4500. This was to occur the next day. The next day, several workers came to do the work and they removed all the shingles, and said there is rotted wood and it needed to be replaced. I agreed and said that was what they said they would do for the $4500 that was agreed on. Then all of a sudden all of the work stopped. I called the boss at another number that I was given 647-503-9560. He said all of he plywood needs to be removed for $20000. I said just replace the section that was rotten and he said that he had to do the entire roof to meet code requirements even though it was not all rotten. He insisted he would do it all or he would do nothing and he would tell the workers to leave unless I agreed to replace all of the plywood for an extra $20000 in addition to the $4500 for the shingles. I had no choice but to agree to the work as all the shingles were off of my roof and I essentially had no roof and no choice - I was held hostage for $20000. When discussing on the phone, I attempted to negotiate for just replacing the worst section of the plywood for less money, but the boss threatened to hang up several times and said he would have the work crew leave the job site if I did not agree to the $20000. It was all or nothing and he referred to building code, stating he had to replace the entire roof.

The work was completed that day except they did not change all of the plywood because there was an area that was too difficult to remove and the code that was referred to before was not discussed and I suspect it was not true.

After speaking with a lawyer, I found he is committing criminal fraud but I did not have proof of criminal fraud for the original $4500 quote since it was a verbal agreement, and I only have the quote for $24000 on paper.
