I think this was probably one of the best Scams I’ve ever encountered. They put a lot of work into this one.

First I got a text telling me they were impressed with my background and would like to move forward and set up an interview.

Before the interview though they set up an assessment that took about 15 minutes. Some was timed and some was not.

The next day I got an offer letter she texted to let me know to check my email and the letter looked absolutely legit. Full of detail, benefits, what they would be sending me, with a letterhead and with a signature.

Jessica, with HR, then proceeded to give me her telegram account which kind of raised my red flag.

A lot of scammers typically use Telegram.

But she said it was because the company likes to have documents of communication so I proceeded.

I checked the email that she sent the offer letter in to the website and it matched even though I found it odd that it did not have her name in front of the email it had HR: [email protected]

They even had me set up a portal that I would use to sign in and sign out and to check my vacation time etc. Very very detailed.

Moving forward, she asked if I had capability to direct deposit a check into my account if they sent me a check. This is why they were sending me a check they said: You’re welcome ??! As mentioned previously, I am here to assist you with the onboarding process. Our next step involves obtaining the software license for you.

Recently, we have encountered situations where checks sent via mail to remote employees have been lost, especially for those who are unable to collect them from the office. To address this issue and ensure a secure and convenient payment method, our accounting department recommends sending the check to you via secured email. This method allows you to deposit the check using your bank's mobile app.

Before we proceed, could you confirm if you are able to complete a mobile deposit?

Good morning! I hope you’re well. I just wanted to let you know that the check for the purpose of obtaining the software license has been sent to your email address. Please check your inbox for further details and let me know if you have received it.

You’re required to carefully follow the deposit instructions that came with the check to have it deposited.

Please send me a clear picture of the cut check so I can confirm you cut it properly before you deposit. Thank you for your understanding

So this check had a watermark on it and everything. Looked very professional. I deposited into my account and the next morning they reached out to see if it went through. It had.

So I then was asked to download Cash app. My red flags were going again.

So I asked her to send me a Zoom so I knew it was her I was talking to. She sent this: This process is completely legitimate and the only reason we have chosen to utilize CashApp is because of the ID verification. Please understand that this mandatory ID verification is a crucial step to ensure a secure and reliable transaction

On the payment page, you’ll need to complete the payment with bitcoin via cashapp. Because as a blockchain company, they only accept decentralized payment

I told her I just wasn’t comfortable with this as there are a lot of scams out there and she sent me a video why they were going this route. I’m telling you they had an answer for everything. With the video she sent this: This process is completely legitimate and the only reason we have chosen to utilize CashApp is because of the ID verification. Please understand that this mandatory ID verification is a crucial step to ensure a secure and reliable transaction

Luckily, my phone is very old and it would not allow me to download Cash app.

So yesterday, Friday, I had to order another phone and I let her know via Telegram that I will not receive it until Tuesday. All I heard was crickets.

She’s been very responsive and when I told her I would not have a phone until Tuesday to do it I did not hear anything back. So I guess I’m just waiting to see if the bank lets me know next week that it was not a legitimate check.

I used DuckDuckGo instead of Google the second time to double check their legitimacy. Google did not have any bad things to say about this company. But when I went on DuckDuckGo that’s where they showed me the domain has only been set up December 2024. I’ll find out next week but it’s interesting that she had not reached out when I told her I did not have access to cash app right now.
