I was solicited via email regarding a government rebate for home upgrades, such as furnaces and insulation. The caller said the program was the Canada Greener Homes Grant (CGHG).

This organization called me after I filled out the form from the email advertisement, and was telling me about how I could save on my energy bill if I bought these upgrades, and that there would be government rebates. The caller then asked for my driver's license to conduct an "assessment" to see if I was eligible for these rebates. He stated that all the upgrades would cost $38 000 and there would be a loan at 3.99%

At this point I was uncomfortable with sharing any more information and I hung up. I did some research on the CGHG and it states that it will never solicit via email or in-person regarding the program. Consumers reach out to them if they are interested in the program. The CGHG also has a loan program, which provides up to $40 000 at 0% interest for 10 years.

I also called CGHG and was told that they do not authorize any 3rd party to provide the program, except for Enbridge if you are in Ontario. If you get any advertisements about rebates for home upgrades, it is a scam. Go to the CGHG website to apply to the program if you are interested.

This person is a clear liar. Ive dealt with the organization prior and they clearly state that they are not government workers or a part of the CGHG. As far as this goes it is a financial loan for equipment at cost neutral causes meaning that you will never pay money out of pocket and they also explined that if you do you will not qualify for the program. As far as this person reporting this goes, they have clearly not listened to the energy advisors wording or explanation. As far as this goes me and my family and other friends have went ahead with these programs and have new high efficiency equipment installed at no cost, save money, and a waived installation fee. I am very happy with my new on demand water heater and heat pump and my bill as of currently cost me less than a hundred dollars. Please inform yourselves before spreading false information when these people are here to help you get out of financial stress. Maybe he just didint qualify ;).
