Received a voicemail message from someone identifying himself as Sgt. Dalarian Wiggins of the Escambia County Sheriff's Department. He stated he was trying to establish contact with him, using my first and last name, about an important civil matter. He left the above listed contact number (I tried to call back; no voicemail setup). I contacted the Sheriff's Department through their main phone number and verified that they had no record of any civil matters associated with my name, and that the phone number used to call me was not associated with Sgt. Wiggins. I did the same with the Escambia County Courthouse. I did not speak to this individual directly, and I still have the voicemail message saved on my phone if anyone needs it.

I received a phone call mid-morning at work on 11/6/18. The caller identified himself as Lt. Kevin Pryce, Badge #1170 with the Escambia County Sheriff's Dept. He said a summons for federal jury duty had been sent to my home address (which he knew) in October and asked did I receive the summons. I told him I had not. He asked several more questions as to the possible reason I may not have received it. Then, he informed me two citations have been issued against me. The first, FTA (Failure to Appear) and gave me Citation Reference #170079-81. The fee associated is $650.00. The second, COC, (Contempt of Court), Citation Reference #431256-EL. Fee associated $325.00. He spoke very clear and with all information he provided, he had me repeat it back. He said the Honorable Judge would waive the fees, but I had to come to the Sheriff's Department today to meet with him. He gave me the address and asked was I familiar with where they are located. He then explained the two options available to me. #1) Via Booking - I would present a valid Driver License. I would be placed in a holding cell until this could be cleared up, usually takes 7-8 hours. #2) Voucher Procedure - Involves EFS (Electronic Funding System) I would need to pay the total amount of $975 by going through Money Pak. He said the funds would be held and after this had been cleared up, would be refunded to me. He asked me if I was familiar with the local Winn-Dixie supermarkets? He then began to explain how I could get the funds for payment through a kiosk. I stopped him and said, for verification purposes, I would call the Sheriff's Department to make sure the information he was providing was true. He said he looked forward to me calling and the phone call ended.

I immediately called the Sheriff's Office and they verified this was a scam. I was given a number to call, which I did, and was then given the bbb.org website.

An officer Trout called my house phone looking for me. A family member got their name and phone number. I called the number back and had no answer. I then called the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and asked for an office Trout. The receptionist at the Sheriff's Department advised me that this individual did not work there and that this was a scammer that had been calling quite a few area locals. She advised me that this person would advise me there was a warrant out for my arrest and that I needed to pay a fine over the phone via credit card.

On January 19, 2018 I was contacted by phone from 850-792-1834 by someone claiming to be Sgt. Matthew Casey with the Escambia County Sheriff's Department. He stated there was an arrest warrant issued on me for failure to appear for Grand Jury Selection. He said the summons was signed for on November 21, 2017 and filed with the clerk on November 29, 2017. He said the summons was issued at ... and he gave my address. He said Judge Benson had issued an arrest warrant for failure to appear on January 18, 2018. He insisted I come to the Escambia County Sheriff's Department and sign out my bond immediately. I ask him who signed the summons and he said they would give me a copy after I signed signature verification at the sheriff's office because I claim I had not signed a summons. He said they would check my signature against the signing signature and if it was not a match the case would be dismissed. If it was a match I would need to post a bond. He then asks if I would be leaving in the next 10 to 15 minutes so he would be available to assist me. I told him it would take me a couple hours to get there. He then explained if I could not leave at once the judge had issued a mobile escort. He explained that I would be monitored by mobile communication until I arrive. He said he was afraid I did not understand the urgency of the situation and he would need to transfer me to his captain for approval to place me on a mobile escort. Someone claiming to be Capt. Davis answered the phone and asks me how he could assist. I explained what I had been told and he said the Sgt. must not have understood me. He said he would transfer me back to the Sgt. and a couple of hours would be fine. The Sgt. then gave me the correct address for the sheriff's department for where I was to report to. The Sgt. then explained that it would take him 10 to 15 minutes to set up the mobile escort and someone would contact me back as soon as complete. Approximately 15 minutes later I received a second called from someone who identified himself as Michael with the Escambia County Sheriff's Department mobile escort division. He stated he would be on the line until I arrived at the Sheriff's Department. He asks me if the Sergeant had discussed the amount of my bond. I told him that the Sgt. stated I could sign my own bond. He said he needed to transfer me to financial because that was not what his records showed. A lady came on the phone and said my bond was $3541.65. I ask her if I needed to hire a bondman and she said the procedure is a lot faster if I purchased an "EVC". I ask what that was and she explained it was an electronic court voucher that I would deposit in the payment kiosk at the sheriff's department. She said if the case was dismissed I would be refunded with a check from the Escambia county sheriff’s department. If it was not dismissed a court date would be issued. I ask her where I purchase the "ECV", she said the mobile escort could look up the closest place it could be purchased. I told her this did not make any sense and I thought it was a scam. She assured me it was not and transferred me back to the mobile escort. When he came back on the phone he said I needed to proceed to my vehicle and give him my odometer reading. I told him I needed to go to the restroom before I left. I then used my husband’s phone and called the sheriff's department to verify this procedure or determine if it was a scam. The officer I spoke with said this was a current scam. When I returned to the phone he was gone. I called the number back from another phone and another person answered the phone with “Escambia County Sheriff's Department”. I am not sure what there end game would be. I can only speculate. My fear is sense they had my address and I was on this "Mobile escort" that they would follow me to my bank and rob me before I arrived at the real Sheriff's Department.
