This is how they introduced themselves. They sent a check of $7200. Only then I had my doubts. How could someone send so much money just for software purchase.! And how could someone offer a job without a video call or any other official formalities like a call letter from the company. And who would pay $35 per hour for a data entry job. That’s way too high for an hour. Then I found this site and understood that I was about to get scammed. This is a relief that I didn’t proceed to deposit the check.

I got an email for a Data entry position paying $45/hour (1st red flag) and did an "interview" via Zoom Chat (2nd flag), different guy, but gave them the "benefit of the doubt". My guy, Michael Roland, introduced himself the very same way, word for word. I didn't get a check but during the interview I began to think it may be legit. I had to answer questions about myself but not my personal info (just name, location). Nothing that was suspious of identity theft but after answering some questions, he left for an hour without saying anything. While waiting is when I got suspious, starting searching and found your post. I left my guy a message was on to him and exited the "interview". He did return hour and a half later and said he went to a "business meeting"..ha!

Scams thru fake hiring

I was contacted first by text message stating to follow the link to Teams for an interview by a John Bell. Never did this individual want to do a video chat only talking or messaging thru Teams. Went along just to be sure it wasnt a real job and I never provided any personal info on me just my name and address because I was supposely was hired the following day was told the company would provide the laptop and would send me funds to puchase the rest of the Equipment thru they're vendors. The check came the following day which was not a suprise because at this point I knew it was not a real hiring. No work from home company is going to send you a check to puchase Equipment In a company such as EMD group could afford to provide the equipment. The check came from a DSW Sporting Goods location and when i asked Mr. John Bell he replied that the company is Affiliated with them. But the check stated Board of Commision with a florida asdress when i asked about that again I got an answer of the company is affiliated with the board. With the check came a letter telling me to keep the letter not to discard it. And to email a copy of the Receipt to a blink9000443@gmail address which you would think such a company as EMD Group it would be a work Associated email address for their employees. But nope it had a Character picture which I thought was extremely unprofessional for a company. Mr. John Bell was more concern aboutv the funds being Available and that he was here for me to walk me thru the Purchasing of the equipment. When I called him out on all of this which I reminded him that this was not my first work from home position.
The messages stop coming in. They had contacted me thru Indeed

I was contacted via text to start an interview process via Teams. I thought maybe it was a recruiter sending me to an HR person to do an initial interview. I went along with it and answered the questions with John Bell via Teams. I thought this was just info gathering to schedule a real interview. I started to feel concerned that they were going to start asking for personal information to steal my identity, but then they were asking for something simple - deposit a check. That's when I started doing a deeper internet search and found this page. I've declined to chat with them via Teams and blocked them. Good luck out there!

Texted by a person named Tracy Donovan. Said she got my name from a jobsite board. Was told to connect with hiring manager Bernard Williams via Microsoft Teams. They sent me a web site from a company in Darmstadt Germany called Merck KOaA . They sent me a copy of a check for $4900 and told me to deposit it through my on line banking app. I called the Bank on the check and they said the account number on the check was bogus.
