We contacted BhoChimneySweep.com to clean out our chimney and install a cap. The cap they placed blew off within a few days. The way they had attached it to the top of the chimney was by tying it to a log and dropping it into the chimney. We have made several attempts for someone to come back and attach the cap properly with no success over the course of 3 weeks. We also never receive an invoice of payment for the $2800 we paid.

On 5/7/2025 I contacted BHO Chimney Sweep USA and requested a bid for chimney repairs to completely repair our leaking chimney. Eli and David came in response to the request and provided a bid to fix three specific items requiring repair:

1) Chimney crack repairs - $599 ------- (After discussion Eli confirmed ALL of the cracks)

2) Chimney chase cover (painted silver) - $2499

3) Chimney flashing (4 sides) - $1799

Minus Military/Senior discount - $297

Total estimate $4600.

$1500 was paid in advance by check on 7 May 25 for materials.

$3100 was due upon our total satisfaction of completed work.

Eli showed us photos and a video of the poor workmanship of our mason who did “repairs” in 2015. Both Eli and David said how badly it looked on the sides of the chimney and that they would not leave it that way, that they would seal all of the cracks on the top and sides of the chimney with mortar and we would be 100% satisfied before they left after completing the contracted work.

On the evening of 13 May 2025 Eli sent a text to me that they would commence work on 14 May 2025. (I did not see that text until the next morning)

On 14 May 2025 I received a call from Eli that morning stating the chimney chase cover was black and not the silver color we had previously specified. Eli said if we wanted the silver chase cover he would be delayed a day. We agreed we wanted the silver chase cover and could wait another day.

On 15 May 2025 Eli and his supervisor arrived to conduct the work on our chimney at 1300. Mary asked Eli if he thought they would be finished that day and Eli said he didn’t think they would finish, he knew they would be finished. The flashing around the chimney and the chimney chase cover was installed and completed.

When Eli told me the work was complete and showed the pictures to me of the chimney, I asked about the mortar around the bricks. He said the estimate for the cracks was for the chimney crown only. I stated it was in the written estimate that the cracks would be repaired, Eli was very specific that all cracks would be repaired when we spoke on 7 May. The supervisor stated this was a miscommunication, and they would not charge for labor and charge only 50% on a new estimate. Eli said he would text an updated estimate to me within 30 minutes after leaving our residence. I regretfully had already paid the balance of $3,100 via check. I did not receive a text from Eli that evening.

On 16 May 2025 0730 I called our credit union and stopped payment on the $3,100 check as I still had not heard from Eli. Per Eli in our meeting on 7 May 25, we were to be completely satisfied which we were not because all of the work that Eli had contracted with us after clear understanding of our issues with our leaking chimney was not completed.

Hi David, good morning.

After checking with the office, I spoke with them and they told me that this is a big job that takes a lot of time and materials.

The supervisor promised that you’ll receive a 50% discount on the work.

The full price for this job is $2,500 before the 50% discount.

That means the final price for you will be $1,250 after our discount.

If you’d also like to add sealant (Zepheth) around all the pipes on your roof, we can give you a combined price for everything as well.

Your response is a classic subcontractor bait and switch offering a low-cost item or service (the "bait") and then tries to replace it with a more expensive one (the "switch"). This often happens when a subcontractor promises a certain level of work or materials but then substitutes with lower-quality or less desirable options without informing you.

On 19 May, I had my chimney inspected by a certified CSIA Chimney Sweep. The inspection revealed very poor workmanship that likely wouldn't hold up for a year. I will have to have all the work redone.
