Contracted to build brick mailbox, stole my money

Contracted with BG to build a brick mailbox in front of my house. Placed 100 dollar deposit on NOV 2 2023. He subsequently told me to provide him with advanced payment as he could not afford the brick to build the mailbox himself. This was red flag number 1 that I completed overlooked. he then took another month before he even came out to do the foundation for the mailbox and initial just wanted to pack down sand and use a vapor barrier. After expressing my concerns a small pad was built and not level. At this point I felt committed as winter was coming and my current mailbox is broken. 2 weeks lateral he stacked bricks approximately 1/4 of the way up and state he ran out of bricks and needed the full payment. Again, another red flag but I felt forced to follow through as snow was quickly approaching and he was now leaving me with a quarter of he mailbox done. I paid 600 dollar in full and for the last 4 days have heard nothing from him. He will not respond to texts or phone calls and his voicemail box is full. I will be filing a police report. Fortunate for me I have the monetary means and connections to litigate this until I get my money back. There is nothing that frustrates me more than someone hard earned money and I will pursue this on principle alone till he cannot stand it anymore.

A word of advice, do not enter business with this individual. Its not worth it. Hopefully with my efforts I am the last he does this to.

BG Chimney scammed me and a bunch of other people. He took money for materials in April 2021 and never purchased anything or even came out to my house to look at the chimney. I was gone for over a month for military training after he missed the first two appointments and then I had to get back in touch with him. He never contacted me to arrange anything other than taking my money. Over and over we made appointments for him to come and he never did. He'd promise he would be out "tomorrow." Every once in a while he'd text me saying "hello" and nothing else to try to pretend he was communicating and extend the scam. He is a cheat and a liar. It took 3 months to get my money back from the credit card company. I ended up getting the work done by Bugh & Son. They did a great job and were very professional and helpful. In my talks with Bugh, I found out he gave a quote to an elderly woman who said she decided to go with BG Chimney because it was so much cheaper. BG Chimney swindled a little old lady. He has no conscientious. It's a shame that a once seemingly legitimate business decided to take people's money and run. Don't bother getting a quote. Any positive reviews he receives anymore must be from him with a fake account.

This is a complete bunch of crap. This person is not even in my business list nor has had any dealings with my business and for you to post hearsay from another competitor is defamation of character you have no idea what my interactions are with real customers I am legitimate and I don't even take deposits so I will be asking for this to be removed or will be coming with my attorney

On February 17th 2021, Ben came out to clean our chimney. He responded right away. He was not thorough, only cleaned from the bottom side. He seemed knowledgeable and we talked about a new stove pipe for safety. He said he could do the job. He charged me 100 for the cleaning and 100 for the inspection. 25 for moving the woodstove which I helped with... and 50 for a fire blanket and fire bricks. He came to my house on 2-20-21 for a 450 dollar deposit on a new wood stove pipe. Said he would be out within 2 weeks. Never showed and had a few excuses. He finally shows up april 5th, with fire bricks, no blanket, and had a stove pipe that he had lying around his house (not the one I paid for). The pipe wouldn't fit. He finally cleaned from the top and managed to put a bunch of dirt and ash all over our carpet. He couldn't complete the job because it wouldn't fit as well as the bricks weren't the right size. I finally had enough of trying to get him to do the job, so on May 9th I asked for a refund of 400 dollars. He said he would have to return the pipe and then send me money. It is now 6-16-21 and no refund. He also has stopped responding to texts. I have invoices, bank statements, and texts to prove this. He is a scammer. I will be going to a legal solution next. I would highly recommend you don't use this company. It is a scam. UPDATE: 8/19/21 no refund yet, despite many conversations and more excuses. Now they, (he and his wife) are not responding. The two photos are the last (of a VERY long text chain) with them starting in February of this year.

We contacted Ben in February about cleaning our Chimney so it was safe to use, while here he recommended removing and replacing the crown, as well as filling in the cracks and mortar in between the bricks which we were fine with we just wanted our fireplace to be safe. He came did the work but failed to do any fills below the roof or replace the crown which was paid for in full, instead he just went over it with mortar and it is now cracking. Now, we are not familiar with this stuff so we didnt know better and because of that we paid for another job from him which was to install a reclaim unit. We paid a deposit of $250 with the rest of the bill being paid upon completion, mind you we made this deal in late February. Fast forward to today and the job still isnt done nor has he been back. We have asked multiple times for our deposit back in the last 7 weeks. We have been extremely patient and understand that life happens, from February to May we kept trying to schedule to get him out here. Every. Single. Time. He would not show up. Now Ben is not responding to repeated attempts to get our money back for job he hasn't even attempted to do. Ive seen other people write reviews with the same complaints, I wish we wouldve listened to them. In general, Ben is a nice person and I have no issue with him besides how he has chosen to treat us as customers. Take this as a warning, if you give him a deposit you are taking the chance of not getting it back or even getting the work done. Ive attached paperwork and texts to show what ive went through since February.

This is a half truth customer could not make up their mind whether or not they wanted me to return the product or do the work so eventually after they seem to be reasonable and told me I could come out and do the work they switched it to they would like to just pick up the part I told him I would drop said part off he replied that he doesn't want the part again and there's no reason why I can't just give him his money and proceeded to tell me that he will go to prison and does not care of course I'm not going to show up to someone's house that just threatened my life

Again this is the third review from the same RC in the same amount again he struck me with a lift bill after a total interaction of 7 days and refuse to let me come do the work on schedule day because he was going to have someone else come on Wednesday comes to find out they didn't finish till Saturday he could have had the work done 5 days previous but proceeded instead even after giving receipts and pictures and everything to screw me over with the lift bill

Mr Russ had a slate roof in Michigan that could not be stepped on so he gave me a deposit to rent a lift to be able to install some caps. When I picked up the lift and was on the way my hitch broke I sent him pictures and we scheduled for Monday on Monday when I was preparing to come he told me he doesn't want to work done and he already had somebody coming out on Wednesday I told him I could do it today and that he's under contract and he stated that he did not care and he wanted his money back because he already had someone taking a day off mind you he already ruined my schedule day. Later he told me that the guy was coming on Wednesday to give an estimate and wasn't to do the work until Saturday he blatantly ripped me off and stuck me with a rental lift for no reason customer did get all of his money back and I got stuck with a $350 lift bill. Who is the real jerk here?

I hired Ben Goddard from BG Chimney and Building on Monday April 12, 2021. He was to come out to do the job Wednesday the 14th. He said the product to fix my chimney wasnt in yet and he would be out that Friday. Friday came along and he gave me another excuse to come later in the day. Well he didnt show. He said he would do it Monday the 19th. He didnt show again. Said give him one last chance or he would return my money. He again did not show on Tuesday the 20th. I told him I would give him until the next Saturday the 24th after work to return my money. He did not. The next day I finally had to threaten to take him to small claims court for get my money back. It is now Monday the 26th and still no money back. I have already had another guy come out and do the job.

This is the same customer that already made a review above for the same amount he ripped me off on a lift and I was coming out on Monday it was Monday he told me he was having somebody else come out and do the work on Wednesday which person didn't come until Saturday so he stuck me with a lift bill the whole interaction was a week long before he canceled canceled for no reason after being given great communication receipts for said lift and pictures of the broken lift and again he did receive all of his money

This customer was fully refunded and all customers are protected under contract. The gutters were ran off at around three hundred dollars which the buisness took a loss on. This customer was informed of the delays and didn't want the work done anymore. I told him to give it a week for the refund through paypal and he received full refund.

Ben came and cleaned my chimney, the work he did was acceptable we then got in the topic of doing gutters, he started he could do them no problem. He quoted me 900, with a 400 deposit, he had me pay through PayPal as friends/family which in hindsight now I see that's so I couldn't go after him for buyer protection. He stated that the work would be done 11-6. He never showed up to do the work providing excuse after excuse on 11-11 I told him to forget it and refund me my money. I've been attempting to collect my deposit back since then with no luck. I have 3 weeks worth of text messages.

This man was never ripped off and received a full credit after a couple day delay and he no longer wanted services. Paypal took time to do the refund, so after recovering an almost three hundred dollar loss after running off the gutters to specific size to the home. He was impatient and smeared this buisness for no reason but to harm small buisness
