Benjamin Strom Reports & Reviews (1)

- Glendale, AZ, USA

I was sent a friend request on LinkedIn earlier on August of this year by a man called Benjamin Strom, his profile says he is a Self-employed Geologist, experience of 19 years or so, I accepted him because his profile seemed genuine. A few days later I received his first email, saying thank you for accepting him and that he wanted to make friends, that he hoped to hear from me. I answered him back and that´s when we started exchanging some emails once in a while, sometimes he took a few weeks to answer back which seemed a bit weird, he said he is 42 yo and an Amish (first strange thing he said), widower of 6 years, has a daughter named Sophie who is about to be 12 yo in December, has a shih-tzu dog, both of his parents are death, his father died 9 years ago of lung cancer and his mother died when he was 5, says he is German living in German Village, Columbus, Ohio and owns and runs his own laboratory in the basement of his house (all of his emails were signed as "Strom´s Laboratory") because it keeps him available for parenting duties, has no siblings and currently working on a limestone and zultanite distillery project. Then after a few emails he asked for my WhatsApp which I gave to him since he didn't seemed a bad person, he started to text me there and started to be very lovey-dovey which I kind of liked but at the same time made me feel uncomfortable since we barely knew each other, he started to talk about "how the heart comes alive when the right person comes to your life" and that "he started to grow feelings for me that he thought were impossible for him". I didn't mind about what he said he was very polite, but never really asked much about me and he didn't say that much about him either, even though he said he wanted to get to know me better. Sometimes there were days he wasn't even online. The weird part is that he says that as an amish he doesn't like gadgets and stuff like that, but his WhatsApp has a phone number and his email account is on icloud. He called me a couple of times and he really sounded German, had a pretty strong accent. Never wanted to do a video call. Said he couldn't do that because Amish are very conservative. A couple of weeks ago he told me he was very stressed out because he was travelling to China soon to present his project and he had trouble with the money sent and that it bounced back to his bank account. Then a few days later he told me (by this time he was calling me "baby, dear, darling, sweetheart, beautiful") that he wanted to send me money to buy a plane ticket for us to meet in France via Western Union, which seemed odd because why Western Union? I obviously said NO and that we didn't even know each other for that long. He said he understood and that he was sorry for thinking we could spend Christmas on a nice place since he was planning taking his daughter to his late wife's parents for holiday. The next day he texted me he needed my help, that he couldn't get his trip to China paid and that if I could help him buy bitcoins, he would send me the money after I bought them. He wanted 700 USD of bitcoins. I told him I didn't have that amount of money. To test him I told him I lost my job. He said he was sorry but if I had 250 USD it would be fine. I told him I didn't have it. He started to be very insistent on when I could have that money, when can I do it? So I said I couldn't because I didn't have it. After that he stopped texting me although he still has me in his contacts.

All those behaviours seemed really odd to me, so I got into LinkedIn and his email on there is [email protected] weird since the most common ones are on Google or Outlook and Yandex is Russian. Next his registration date is on the 5th of August of this year so it's brand new and also premium on LinkedIn. He has over 500 contacts. I realized on my email that I had a lot of contact suggestions and all of them were from him and all of them were women, good looking women!! Next on his activity he was on several live streaming videos saying Hi to a lot of women and last, I did a reverse image search and his profile picture is stolen. That photo belongs to *** *** *** *** who is a entrepreneur, is married 18 years. This man's daughter is *** and he is a German immigrant. I couldn´t believe this!!! Then I searched this phone number *** and although it says it is in Ohio is not in German village. It is in Westerville, Ohio, zip code 43081, Company *** *** *** **. In another search page there is a complaint in italian about a woman telling the exact same thing saying it was an attempted romance scam and said exactly the same. The pictures were stolen from the man above and that complaint is a little over a year ago!! She says this man erased his phone and his profile when she caught him. So beware all of you this man is not only trying to take money from you but also tried to make me travel overseas to meet him which could be attempted kidnapping and may even be part of a human trafficking organization.
