The asking price was $2,400 which was way below the est. market value of around $6 to $7 thousand.
I made the email contact with the seller. The seller responded back and asked me to give her my full name and address and phone number. This was required by her so that she could give this info to eBay who were acting on her behalf as agent to hold the money ($2,400) in escrow that I would deposit with them till I have checked out all the info related to the car(the lean, encumbrances and the condition of the SUV). I have 5 days to complete the process. If I’m satisfied with what I discovered about getting vehicle and owner (seller) I can direct eBay to release the deposit ($2,400) to Barbara Hall or ask for the refund of the money I deposited ($2,400) with eBay if I’m not satisfied.
The seller does not provide her personal info or the SUV’s VIN number or the location of the vehicle to me to conduct a background check of the seller and the vehicle.
I have saved the email communication with the seller from the first to the last. Also, I have
the pictures of the vehicle and parts of the original posting as it appeared on the Market Place. I am available to further discuss and provide all the info I have with me.
I’m not sure how many people like myself have responded to this ad and how many May have fallen victim to this scam but I definitely feel this needs an immediate attention of the authorities and warn others without any delay before they become victims too. Fortunately, I did not fall for the scam.
