American Relief Recovery Act scam Reports & Reviews (1)

- Baltimore, MD, USA

I received a call from an Unknown Number, male who I spoke to had a slight foreign accent. I was informed that I had been selected to receive a $9000 grant from US Federal Grants. I was told that every year 15,000 people were selected randomly to receive these grants under the 2009 American Relief & Recovery Act, after verification that I had no criminal record, was retired (other qualifications included being disabled), I was chosen for this year. I was assigned a code number, 3 letters + 3 digits, & told to call another number (202-810-2162) to speak to an accounts office & receive my grant. I called that number & the male answering also had a slight accent. He asked me to identify myself & how I wanted to receive the money, i.e. in my bank account, on my credit card, or in cash. I responded Cash. He asked if there was a Walmart or other large retail store that cashes checks close by & I said there was a Walmart, then asked him what else I needed to do to get the grant. He told me I would have to pay $299, & when I told him I didn't have any money at all & was broke, he quickly told me he was terminating the call & hung up.
