I was attempting to call American Airlines to cancel plane tickets for my family. I copied and pasted (because it was not a clickable number) the customer support number from my American Airlines app into my calls and attempted to call. The "agent" on the other line answered the phone saying "American Airlines ...." But somehow the call got routed to a scammer instead of an American Airlines agent. He gained access to my AA Advantage account and cancelled my flights saying I would receive the travel credit to my account right after the cancellation was confirmed. He then came on saying it would be $80 per person cancellation fee because it was a basic economy flight and was non-refundable. I told him that if I had known there was a fee associated with cancelling, I would have kept the tickets. I got upset because he had already cancelled the tickets before he told me about the fee and I felt I had no choice but to pay. I ended up (regrettably) giving him my credit card info and he processed a fee of $280 to my card. I lost my airline tickets, got no travel credit (working on this with American Airlines currently) and had to file a dispute with my credit card company to get the $280 back.

I received a phone call from a male with indian accent asking if I was XXXX (correct first name), identifying himself as an American Airlines agent and offering a $200-300, one year valid air ticket for me and husband if we attend the Deerfield Beach Calling Center opening party. At a moment he lowered his voice, and after asked if I was hearing him, I answered "yes I listen". Asked me to confirm our attendance, I said "No", he asked why?, "to far from home", then I closed the line.

Investigated online and there are lots of complaints about the same call and then charging the person why ammounts and using the recording when they assure the person has agreed to the purchase of the item.
