Type of a scam Phishing
I looked at my phone call log ... and dialed the number back ... and got a machine saying that "your call can not be completed as dialed .. please try again"!
The number on my call log was: 231-978-9876
The time of the call was 2:33 pm (9 March 2017)
I immediately reported the episode to my IT and Cyber Security Branch personnel at my work place.
One of the recommendations they made to me was to report this to the ScamPulse.com (BBB) Scam Tracker to help warn others --> to share this Scam Tracker information with government and law enforcement agencies, as every piece of information is helpful in tracking down scammers.
They also told me that what I experienced was possibly similar to the "Can you hear me?" telephone scam which has been recently reported in the media and on the internet. In this related scam, the nefarious actors record the "Yes" response and may later attempt to bill me for products or services that I never asked for. And if I try to deny the charges, the scammers will playback my verbal confirmation "Yes" and threaten to take legal action if I don’t pay.
So I'm not sure how to protect myself but to just keep monitoring my accounts and credit card statements. Any suggestions you might have, please share.
