Women We Admire Reports & Reviews (7)

I received the same email as described in other complaints. Cost of $495 for an annual "membership" to be featured and considered for the Top 50 Award in my city. Easy to see this is a scam, but it is an elaborate one. Beware.

- Rocky Face, GA, USA

I received an email about one week ago telling me that my credentials had been evaluated and I was selected to receive their recognition award, but in order to receive the recognition I would need to become a member. I clicked on the previous "publications" and then went to the website. I did not click on the membership link because I questioned the legitimacy of the organization. I decided to search the internet to see if it were a scam and saw this information on the Better Business Bureau website.

They are literally selling awards for $500, and if you "purchase" your
"award" they take 20 minutes to create a flattering bio for you. Ridiculous.

I received a similar email via my work email address from someone stating their name was Alexis Miller stating that I was nominated as one of the "Top 50 Women Leaders." I was also requested to pay a $495 membership fee. This came to my work email. When I asked if we could set up a time to discuss, I received a very verbose and unctuous reply about my impressive credentials and how the organization is so short staffed that an phone conversation was not feasible.

I also could not find an Alexis Miller on any professional website, including LinkedIn.

I am reporting this to my employer's IT department as a phishing scam.

Beware!

WWA sent me an email naming me as a finalist for the "Top 50 Women Leaders in Utah". The email is below, but to receive the award I was asked to pay a $495 membership fee. When I replied asking about the details of my nomination I got a vague, copied and pasted answer. When I pressed for more information, I received no reply. You shouldn't ever have to pay for an award; the idea of being a top 50 leader is great but this award is a fluke.

The email: "We wanted to let you know that you, [XXX] have been selected as a finalist for The Top 50 Women Leaders of Utah for 2023. Our selections were based on a methodical review of women executives and leaders across the area. You were identified and your career track record up to and including your current leadership position was further reviewed.

"For background, Women We Admire (WWA) is a membership organization comprised of over 1,200 of the most accomplished women leaders in business, law, consulting, education, non-profit as well as other sectors. In addition, our digital publications are distributed to over 32,000 professionals in technology, finance, healthcare, real estate, and consumer products, among many other industries. Please check out the previous year's publication for The Top 50 Women Leaders of Utah for 2022.

"If you would like to be recognized as an awardee, we ask that finalists become a WWA member. You may do so through our membership page. Upon activating your membership, you will be confirmed as an awardee, have complete site access, be able to connect with other WWA members, and be eligible to attend member events. Note that only members will appear in the article.

"We will be announcing the article through our website, on social media and through a press release in April. If you would like to be included, your membership should be processed no later than Wednesday, March 22nd.

"If you have any questions, feel free to let us know.
Best regards and congratulations,

Alexis

I could not speak to anyone to get answers on the award, why I was selected and its background. It could not send me a PO or invoice but only accept my credit card.
We must, especially as women in business, ensure we are not targeted. I hope this program is taken down and the true recognition of successful women in business increases with legitimate awards and rewards.
