Tech support. I called the number and was put in touch with a company that called itself Top Titan. They fixed my computer for $599 and added a firewall program, an Ad blocker, and other security apps.
On March 20, 2025, I received a phone call from a man calling himself Max Rogers who claimed to be responsible for fixing my computer in November. He now called his company Webmicro. He attempted to renew my security service for a one time fee of $9,000. When I refused to renew my service because of the cost, he claimed I owed him $3,500 for firewall protection over the last five months. He agreed to reduce the fee to $1,500 but when I questioned the reason for the cost, he quickly became hostile and threatened to charge me $9,000 and overdraw my bank account (he doesn't have my account information). He tried to demand that I mail the $1,500 check immediately (this is at 6:30 PM). When I told him I'd mail it later, he demanded I do it immediately the next day.
Microsoft says Webmicro is not affiliated with them and the tactics used parallel those of tech support scams. I have not sent a 1,500 check and will not do so.
