I contacted VinHistoryUSA to obtain a "free" vin number report. Did not request a subscription; did not see any reference to a $29.95 payment or recurring payment. I read statement saying nothing is free, this report will cost $1. I was leary about providing my banking information so I entered my cash app debit card info instead. I figured $1 wouldn't hurt. This was on April 5, 2025. On April 12, 2025, there's a charge for $29.95 from this company! I reached out to them on April 14, 2025. I was told the "subscription" would be canceled and the payment refunded. Neither happened. On May 12, 2025, a new charge was attempted to Cash App by Vin History Usa. Luckily, I'd removed all links to my bank and blocked transactions from Vin History. I reached out again and was told by phone, account is canceled. I warn anyone seeking services from this unreputable company to pay the cost to use Car Fax. This headache is not worth it.

Here is the email I sent to PayPal… I am waiting to get my money back…

This company is a fraud. I never signed up for a subscription! I have already sent you screenshots of the email they sent me claiming that the subscription they signed me up for without my permission has been canceled. They sent me this email on May 19 when I first complained. And they sent it to me again yesterday on May 25 when they charged me yet again. There is no canceling this company. When you try to “cancel” this automatic subscription that no one signs up for, they continue to charge anyways. Even on their website, it says you can simply contact them and they’d be happy to cancel the subscription. They probably had to put that there because people have to constantly contact them because they automatically subscribe you without your permission. However, no one is able to successfully cancel the subscriptions that they automatically sign people up for.

I have sent you screenshots that show that this scam company called Vinhistory sent me an email saying that my subscription was canceled. But then they continue to charge me. And the important thing that you need to understand is that I never ever signed up for the subscription in the first place! This company is horrible. They are a complete scam. This is the second time I’ve had to report them, and you are allowing them to continue to take money out of my account, even though the previous report that I filed against them was immediately settled in my favor. And here they are charging again, as if that first report never even happened with you guys.

If you would kindly go to their website and go through this process yourself, you’ll see what I mean. They claim to give you reports on your own car, because I’m selling my car, I wanted to acquire that information so that the people I’m selling it too would have it on hand. So that everything would be clear and honest and concise. So that the buyers would have a record of everything regarding my car. Because I’m selling my car. So this website claimed that for only one dollar you could generate a report to give to the person you’re selling your car too. And it’s a one time $1 fee. However, apparently, when you pay this $1, not only do they never sent you a report, they automatically subscribe you to $25 or $30 a month without your permission. Go ahead, generate report for $1, and they will automatically sign you up and start charging you every week or two for a subscription that you never signed up for.

They need to be blocked from my PayPal! I am also including photos of another customer complaining about this. Is the only way for me to get rid of this is to completely close my bank account and close my account with you guys, PayPal? Is there no other way that you can help me? If you can’t stop this, then I will just simply have to rely on Venmo and Zelle moving forward. I cannot keep reporting them every week or two every time they charge me for something I never signed up for!

Again, I have included photos of the email that they sent me when I had to go in and cancel a subscription that I never signed up for and then they sent me an email saying that it was canceled, but it clearly wasn’t. And again, as I did previously, I am sending you a screenshot of another person on Reddit, complaining about this company doing the exact same thing to them! And, as you can see, they have done this to many people.

Please block them and please stop these charges or I will be forced to shut down my PayPal account and rely on other services. And/or, I will have to close my Wells Fargo account so that they can’t keep stealing money from me!

This is horrendous. It’s disgusting that companies like this can get away with something like this. And I’m the one that has to gather all of this information to prove the fraud? This is very frustrating. I’ve already done this. PayPal used to be a reliable way to pay for things. Is it not that way anymore? I’m beginning to wonder!

Website advertises pulling car facts history for $1. I missed the part where they charge $29.95 a month after that as it was either in fine print or non-existent. After realizing there was a monthly subscription I attempted to call them with the number provided on their website and via email. I was unable to get in contact with a person after multiple calls so I used the “Live Chat” feature on the direct website. I did have an entire conversation with a representative in which I made it clear that I wanted to cancel any subscription and was requesting a refund. My request was acknowledged and the rep agreed to refund me. The entire conversation was forwarded to my email. I was told it would be a week before I would see the credit on the credit card originally charge. After 10 days, no credit was returned nor could I get a hold of anyone by telephone again with the number provided on the website. I then attempted to dispute the charge through PayPal, but their response was that the vendor provided “sufficient information” to them. I never intended to use the website more than for one inquiry nor have I used it again since then. By the time I realized I lost the dispute, even providing PayPal with documentation of the conversation I have been hit with another charge since then. PayPal is now refunding me for the second charge and I have to block the merchant from charging me again in the future, possibly by closing the credit card altogether. I have continued to attempt to contact the merchant but have been unsuccessful in getting in contact with anyone to even inquire. Their system does recognize my telephone number so I’m wondering if they have me blocked at this point although it continues to ring during the hours of 8am-8pm eastern standard time without response. I feel betrayed and scammed as there has not been a real opportunity at correcting the issue. Any ethical company providing a real service would make themselves available in my mind. In any case, that’s the story and after becoming a bit frustrated with the whole situation I’m realizing I’m not alone. This is reaching out to you.

Tried to get value of my Truck to sell through a couple of sites and came across VinHistoryUSA. They wanted $1.00 to prove I wasn’t a bot. I went through Pay Pal because I thought it was safe to pay through PayPal. Until I saw my credit card account and saw two charges. One for the $1.00 that I paid to VinHistory, and another for $29.95 to VinHistory that I didn’t know about.

When I checked with PayPal and my credit card company both said that the $29.95 was going to be a reoccurring monthly charge and both said they would have to investigate. Master Card said it would take about 60 to verify it was a fraud

This is regarding a business called VinHistoryUSA.com. I was looking at a car and ordered a report for $1.00. The report is lacking -

it's all easily available FREE online - They present it as if it's like a carfax report. Its useless. When I saw the $29.95 charge pending

from them on my PayPal I contacted VinHistoryUSA.com - first emailed and then called the 202 area code number. A woman who

was very di?cult to understand named "Nei" agreed to cancel the "subscription" that I never authorized nor intended to buy and

never used. She refused to refund the money because she said that "I did not cancel within the 7-day trial period". This is a complete

scam. If it were a legitimate business they would acknowledge that I ordered a single report for $1.00, not a subscription. Nowhere

when you agree to buy does it say that if you do not cancel within 7 days you will be charged $29.95. And if does I can't find it. After

filing with the merchant I disputed with PayPal. Just received notice that they denied my claim ((("An update on case ********* ********* We have received a response from the merchant and we've also reviewed all the details of your case. Based on the

merchant’s response and the information we have to date, we have denied your case. This decision was made because our records

show that this transaction was processed correctly."))) Payal supports the fraud. Lesson learned for me but I hope that you can stop

this practice. There has to be a clear statement that by clicking "purchase" you are agreeing to future charges of $29.95 per month

until you cancel. Who in their right mind would agree to this? Nobody. That's why they don't state it clearly. Thanks for

It mimics trustworthy sites such as Vehicle History, VINCheck, etc. to make you click it wrongly and scam you through a subscription service.

- Clarksville, TN, USA • May 12, 2025

Websites says you will pay 1$ for a 1 time vin lookup for a vehicle. As soon as they run your card its 2 transactions for 1$ each instead of 1$ like stated. After 2 weeks they charged me 29.95 and have been every 2 weeks for 6 months. You call them no one ever answers. Cant cancel anything on their website. 19th call attempt finally answered, sounds like a call center in India says they cant cancel it thats what you signed up for and hangs up.

- Frederick, MD, USA • May 11, 2025

They offer a very basic auto vin report for $1.00. Without agreemet or consent they charged $29.95.

- Madison, WI, USA • May 06, 2025

If you attempt to lookup one VIN, they ask you to pay $1. They don't disclose that there is a 7-day trial and that you will be charged a monthly subscription fee of $29.95/month after 7 days. They did not send any account or login info. Once I saw the second fee, I contacted them for a refund which they claim is "immediate, and hassle free". The "Cancelation Line" phone number is not in service. They say you can request to cancel via chat, but the representative says they can't issue refunds. Sending an email results in an automated response saying you have to use the cancellation/unsubscribe link in your initial email (which was never sent).

- Eugene, OR, USA • May 01, 2025

the website runs a false active scan page that claims to be finding the requested info about a given VIN # and then tells you that it has located all the info. You are then offered to receive the requested information for a charge of $1. After paying the $1 via credit card I received an email that said that no information was available for the requested VIN# only to then find out they they auto enrolled me into a recurring "subscription" for $29.95/mo. I requested via live chat that it be cancelled and a refund be issued because the system was using deceptive techniques and did not provide what it had promised, immediately after I saw that I had been charged (7 days after paying the $1 and receiving none of the promised information), but I was told by the agent that the request could not be processed by them and that they would send it to a higher level team member who would take are of it. I communicated with them a couple more times when I heard nothing each week. After a full month had passed I received a fraud alert that they were attempting to charge me again for the service that I was assured would be cancelled and refunded. Again they claimed that it was escalated to a "high priority" and that they would "decide" whether it warranted a refund...

I have still not heard back from their billing department and no refund was processed. The fraud department had to cancel my credit card and put a block on them to stop charging me.

This has become a huge hassle.

Do not fall for this scam

They claim to only charge $1.00 for a VIN history report & charge you the $1.00, but then charge you for a subscription about 7 days later without letting you know, if you did not cancel, but you don't know that you need to cancel because you have no idea you are now subscribed.

I did a live chat with a rep on their website to cancel the subscription that I never signed up for & asked for a refund, & received an email from them, & they still did not cancel the subscription & they are trying to charge me again.

- Wasilla, AK, USA • Apr 22, 2025

I was charged $29.95 by VINHistoryUSA without my informed consent. I purchased a $1 Vin check and I only became aware of a subscription when I saw the $29.95 charge through PayPal

When I discovered the charge, I contacted VINHistoryUSA through their help chat. They gave me a link to cancel the subscription. When I clicked it, I was taken to a page with a red circle and a red "X" that said:

"Sorry, we can't cancel your subscription. Please contact us."

There was no option to cancel—just an “OK” button.

I returned to the chat and was told to email the company. An automated email reply ignored my refund request and referred me right back to the same non-functional cancellation link. After several back-and-forth attempts, I was told a “ticket”was submitted for both the cancellation and the refund. Three days later, I received the following email confirming cancellation:

“Your subscription has been cancelled. You can resume your subscription anytime. Once your subscription transition to our premium plan, you will be billed $29.95 per month for continued access to 50 reports/month.”

This language is vague, doesn’t confirm that charges will stop, and doesn’t acknowledge my refund request.

I did not knowingly agree to a subscription, received no billing agreement or documentation, and only realized I was being charged after the $29.95 was withdrawn via PayPal.

I filed a dispute with PayPal, including screenshots and a full explanation. PayPal denied my request, saying the transaction was “processed correctly,” despite all the evidence of a misleading cancellation process.

I later learned that the Better Business Bureau issued an alert about VINHistoryUSA on November 15, 2022, for similar behavior: unauthorized recurring charges and obstructive cancellation practices.

I believe this violates the FTC’s Negative Option Rule, which requires companies to clearly disclose subscription terms and provide an easy, functional method to cancel. That absolutely did not happen in my case.

I needed info on a vehicle so i ordered a 1.00 report. It gave me absolutely nothing i didnt already know. Then a couple of weeks later i was charged 29.95. I went through the cancelation process, so i had thought, and a month later was charged again. I have now called, emailed and chatted to cancel. I dont think they ever will. Im going to have to go to my bank and get a new card. I doubt they will refund me any of my money like they said they would. AVOID this website. They took 61.00 from me and im not happy.

you purchase a $1 history report from the website with no indication that this is a membership trial or that will be subsequent charges. When accessing the account after the $1 charge there is no indication of membership on your account nor is there a notice of additional charges. 14 days later you receive a 29.95 charge for membership (still no notification of said charge). In attempt to cancel the account only their mobile website would work, the desktop site has a constant security error. On the mobile site there is no way to cancel the membership. When sending an email to their support I was told to cancel through an email, that they never sent. I informed them I promptly wished to cancel, and decided the 29.95 was just a lost cause as they refused to refund. 15 days later I received another charge of 29.95 and was told the same thing about canceling (which I couldn't do) I tried calling and received no answer. Finally I resolved through PayPal resolution, and it has been "cancelled" (I will know if 30 days I guess) and after a nasty email back because I said I was reporting to the FTC for fraudulent and misrepresenting membership. I received a refund of the second 29.95. They would not refund the first one.

DO NOT USE THIS SITE.

Cannot cancel, no response from customer support. Website has no traceability.

Cannot cancel these purchases

- Cordova, TN, USA • Apr 01, 2025

I used Vinhistoryusa to look into a car I was planning to purchase, and was asked to pay $1 in order to access the report, and that it would be a trial for one week until they charged me in full for the subscription. When I went to cancel the subscription, because I did not need a subscription only one report, I could not find a place to cancel it, and when I looked up how to cancel I was led to multiple online forums of other people talking about this happening to them and that they were charged for months by this website after calling and “canceling” the subscription. I called them to cancel mine, they confirmed cancellation, and yet I was still charged for my “subscription” that I had cancelled. Multiple people had been scammed by this website yet it is still up and running, and stealing money from people. It needs to be shut down

offer free service. When personal information is collected they said service cost is $1. Then the amount is paid. they did not deliver the service. But they tried to ask for more money. They open an account with my personal, but i have no way to cancel the account.

- Klamath Falls, OR, USA • Mar 20, 2025

Website offered a $1.00 VIN check, took credit card information, charged a $1.00 fee for the VIN information. Later attempted to charge a $30.00 fee every time the VIN report I had paid for was accessed.

• Mar 19, 2025

I used VINHISTORYUSA to check on a vehicle I was interested to purchase. The "free" option ended up costing $1 to get an inferior vehicle report. Agreeing to the dollar charge signs you up for a membership at $29.95. This info was not displayed to my recollection and charge shows up a week later. This business is set solely to scam consumers in my opinion.

I googled vin history for a motorcycle I bought. This was one of the links that came up. I went through the process and what was returned was basically nothing on the bike. It didn’t even show the ownership. After I paid $4 for no useful information, I attempted to unsubscribe like the disclaimer at the bottom of the email shows. There was an error message saying to contact them. When I tried to press one to unsubscribe it just hangs up. When you press the associated number to talk to a live agent it just rings and rings until it says that no one can be reached and goodbye as it hangs up on you again. When I sent an email, there was a general reply to use the email that was first sent. And that got me nowhere either except back to the same error message. When you try to chat with the love agent…..it took awhile and then when they responded I couldn’t text back without needing to add an additional texting feature……luckily, my bank reached out to me when they tried to charge to 29.95 for fraud and I told them about it. The company has not been able to charge me so far…..
