Fraud

Paid for trips to Cancun, including flights, hotel and travel insurance. She quit responding to messages, deleted all communications. Used a Citi CC to pay and the Citi said information sent to them by the merchant was valid and they refused to return the money even though all proof was given to them.

VelaMar Travel -travel agent Maritza Vela offered us a trip to London and Paris. I communicated with her on February 16 on the trip that she offered us and then she proceeded to give me a prize. Since she stated that if paid in full we would get a discount I proceeded to send her the payment within a 3 day span. On March 4-$2,000, March 5-$2,000, March 6-$2,896 and on April 14-$195 for travel insurance. The whole time we were communicating via Facebook messenger. Our so called trip was supposed to happen on June 21. I kept asking her for our itinerary in March, April, and May and nothing. She kept stating that she was transitioning to a new system and was having a hard time with it. She also stated that her daughter had been hospitalized. On June 6 she finally sent me the itinerary. We spoke on the phone on June 14 and June 17. She stated that she would send us the flight information on June 19 or June 20 and that did not happen. On the night of June 20, the day before we were supposed to leave for the trip, she stated that she was having technical difficulties to download the flight information and that she'd have to call technical support the following day to get that to us. We departed to Houston, Texas from Edinburg, Texas (6 hour drive) to get our flight. The whole drive up to Houston I kept calling and messaging Maritza Vela to no avail. She would not answer my calls or text messages. The ringer as I called her sounded as if she was in Mexico. Our supposed flight was to leave at 4:50 pm and so I decided to check with the airlines that had that flight. We were not on their list of passengers. Finally at exactly 5:14 pm sent sent me a message that stated: "I apologize the trip has been cancelled. Alot occurred today and I am definitely going to need to have to cancel." She also stated that she'd be reimbursing us, but she has not done so to this day. I have filed a police report. On June 21 other people started stating on facebook that they had been scammed by Maritza Vela as well. The number of families that have been scammed is at 68 with a total of $348, 308. Please help us recover the money that was stolen from us by this person and her supposed travel agency. This company is a scam and as such needs to be taken out of business.

This travel agent took several payments. In February she offered to book a trip to Guadalajara Mexico for yesterday. The day before I still did not have confirmation numbers for flights, hotel or transportation. In the past 24 hours I’ve connected with 30 people that have been scammed and the total amount is at $102,000 so far.
