I received a text from USPS showing a tracking number earlier this week. Few text messages came in telling me every location of this piece of mail. I had no idea what it was. I had not ordered anything. I don't have any outstanding bills that I need to take care of. Ok. So I waited for it to come in and it's from a Vagalocity llc. ? Who is this? I googled it and it says it's from Washington Secretary of State. I opened it like a dummy to find nothing. Absolutely nothing in it.
NOTHING! ATLEAST I hope nothing was on it.

Secret survey employment

I was actually first sent 2 text messages congratulating me on being chosen for the job. I found it odd but ended up just reporting it as scam through my text messages on my iPhone and deleting the messages. Then today, while going through my emails, I received an email from usps telling me that my item was out for delivery as well as the tracking number for it. I had no idea what that item was bc I hadn’t order anything. So, the mail runs and in my mailbox was a priority mail envelope addressed to me from Vagalocity LLC. See pictures. I’ve blacked out my name and address. The paper instructs me to deposit the check by counter at my bank (no mobile or atm deposit) then send receipt of said deposit by text and email. I’m supposed to then deduct my payment of $453. Lastly, I am to evaluate 2 stores selling APPLE GIFT CARDS by purchasing one $500 gift card per store and then following the rest of the instructions to complete the evaluation. See pictures.

Priority envelope contained check from local bank with Seattle return address. Email domain & agency in letter of alleged rep not found. Address is of psychology office. Entity formed this year.

Instructions were to acquire Apple gift cards for 1400 total & keep 520 from check once cashed, with reward for completion of tasks by 12 hours that diminished if 24 hours or more. Number provided to contact at completion of tasks & email address provided.

Did not call or message nor endorse/sign check. Once researching Apple gift card scams & finding company here, called non emergency police, who advised envelope, letter, & check be taken to sheriff's office, who retained the evidence & created a seizure report or standard for scam target turning over mail fraud items, that had been sent to mailbox of address without unit number that had been added by either office or mail carrier.

Scammer sent a letter with detailed instructions, and a check for me to deposit. I checked the return address against the listed business on the envelope and it didn’t match. The address is for a legitimate Forensic & Clinical Psychiatry practitioner. I did a reverse number search and found the number given in the letter is listed in South San Francisco. That confirmed the check is fake, which also had no watermark on it. The check amount is for $1,953.28. I was to deposit it at the counter, and explicitly advised NOT to use mobile deposit (another tip off). I should keep $453, then go buy 3 Apple Card’s for $500 each at 3 different stores. Send receipts, etc to a cell and an email. The wait for a forthcoming assignment.
