Received a phone call from unknown person on September 13, 2022, at 10:32 AM. The caller ID phone number appeared to be a local, spoofed number ending in 4063. A Google search of the number showed it did not come from Duke Energy but an individual. A woman with a foreign accent stated she was calling on behalf of Duke Energy. Said there was a technician in my area, and she could make appointment for a free energy check of my home. Told her to take me off their call list. She wanted to know why. I hung up.

called at 4:50 Friday (to make me panic I am sure) and said Centerpoint had dispatched someone to disconnect my service due to nonpayment. I told thm it was an oversight and wanted to check online. I verified online I was not late and hung up.

I received a call from CenterPoint Energy stating my services if I didn't make a payment tonight. So I panicked because the number that called said CenterPoint Energy on my caller ID. He requested payment be send via Zelle so that it can automatically post and so that my services wouldn't get canceled. I sent the payment and after that he requested more money be sent via Zelle as soon as my husband heard the conversation he knew it was a scam and that's when I realized it too. Unfortunately, the money was sent through Zelle and completed and I am trying to dispute it with my Bank.

Call with an automated message claiming to be CenterPoint Energy telling me my service was going to be disconnected. Told me to press 2 to speak to someone. The guy took my address and name and told me I hadn't paid my bill in months and my gas would be shut off in the next 45 min unless I made a payment. While he's saying all this, I went to my account online and verified a $0 balance. I told him this and he said he would have someone in the disconnection department call me since all he can do is take payments. I called CenterPoint using the number on my bill and they verified my $0 balance and said it was a scam. I checked on Google and the number that shows on the caller ID is a CenterPoint number so it's quite deceiving.

I recalled having gotten the same call on 2 July from a different number (also a CenterPoint number) but when the representative picked up, we were disconnected.

It was an automated message pretending to be Centerpoint Energy, threatening to disconnect my service in 30-45 minutes if I didn’t pay a fee. I hung up and verified my account online.

phone call from the actual local phone number, which is identical with the correct Centerpoint phone number and started with an automated message that the utility is going to be disconnected due to a lack of payment.

Then a person came on and when I said I want to call Centerpoint utility company to verify as I knew my bills are paid regularely and automatically they hung up quickly. Also, this phone call happened on a holiday (Laborday) on which I could not verify as the utitlity company was closed, but that's another indicator that this was not a real call from my utiltity company as they are closed.

Charged for gas, Mi taxes everything that another company supplies and the individual pays normal gas co. Then identical charges to them. Who is doing nothing but collecting your money until you catch it. Normal gas co (DTE) won’t do anything to warn people or stop it. Lost thousands of dollars until we questioned why paying indentical charges to 2 places

Phone call, August 18, 2022, around dinner time. Male caller identifying himself as "Joel" from DTE energy, requesting a moment of my time to introduce me to a new option for people on the "automatic service interruption plan." Asked me to participate in the alternative energy plan that uses windmills from the thumb (Almont) to provide a percentage of my energy each month for a 3 percent increase in my bill. Actually quoted an "average" of my bill in a way that made me verify my account and address. Wanted me to commit to that program or the program which uses solar and wind power for an additional fee. I asked several questions....does this link us to the solar panel field in Lapeer? When will the program go in effect? How do we cancel? He was very smooth and assuring. Understood my hesitancy and keep talking. Asked me to identify our account and email. Would send information. NEVER HAS, and today is August 26, 2022. I asked person to "call back when husband at home as I cannot make this decision today." Never called back. He asked for our email, address and home phone. Had our bill information. Is this a scam or not?

A fake person with a foreign accent claiming to work with ATT/DirecTV stated that her name was Alice Smith. She stated that my account promotions were about to end and she was able to extend an offer that would allow me to keep the same price on my services for 2 years. "Alice" informed me that I needed to pay a $99 dollar processing fee in order for the promo to take affect. I questioned her and asked why and she just simply said its for the promo and that I would receive a credit for the fee on my bill. I did give her an E-Check, but asked my son-in-law that works for ATT and he stated that ATT/Direct does not charge a processing fee for promotions. I called back and Alice answered the phone and asked her for her company address and she hung up the phone.

Miguel Diaz at extension #8014 stated that CenterPoint had been having troubles posting my payments and that while there was a credit balance in my account, I needed to pay $198.16 on the spot via Zelle or go in that very moment to the closest CVS, Walgreens or Circle K to make the payment in CASH ONLY and for me to let them know when I was going to do it in order for them to create the "authorization" for me to pay and avoid the service from being shut down.

- Florissant, MO, USA

I had the phone number from Ameren call me and say that my electricity was going to be shut off today unless I paid my bill. My bill is up to date and I verified with Ameren afterwards. Somehow they called using Ameren's number. They also called my cell phone which isn't connected to my Ameren account.
