I am a consultant for Rodan and Fields Skin Care products and received an email saying someone was reaching out to me to order products and I should assist them. There was a person (Susan ******) identified with personal email. So I reached out. It turns out the scammer indicated she is hearing impaired and was planning her daughters wedding and wanted to purchase skincare products as a gift. She had no way to order on line and pay with credit card so asked if I could accept a check to be priority mailed for the amount of products and I would then handle ordering them from my consultant account. A check was mailed for the wrong amount and she indicated it was a mistake as her client sent money to be used for the wedding planner and the products in one amount rather than separating it out. Bottom line I deposited it in my account and then wired most of it back so the wedding planner could get her share and the rest would be used for products. That check was returned as a fraudulent check and hence my bank held me responsible for it. Actually two checks were received and deposited in my account as we tried to untangle the mess. Second check from another source was deposited but it was returned, as well. I didn't wire any of the funds from the second check as I had determined it was another fake check.
