Supportmatic/Tech Squad Reports & Reviews (1)

- New York, NY, USA

Tech Squad (also interchangeably called Supportmatic) sent extremely loud alarms via computer and flashed its name and phone number to call for computer security help during the lockdown period last year. I called and unfortunately allowed the scammers to get into my computer for which they charged, I believe, $2,600. They instructed that the check be made payable to WEBSPACE INC, 603 SEAGAZE DRIVE 779 OCEANSIDE CA 92054. In June this year, they called to say that they detected suspicious activities and that the computer security IP expired 2 days earlier, making my computer vulnerable to cyberattacks. To fix, they would need $2,200. When I read the contract, I suspected a scam since the party to the contract was Supportmatic yet the check was made payable to Webspace Inc (please see above) without any reference to Webspace Inc in the service agreement. The agreement was also unilateral, requiring only my signature which they already created. I demanded that they send me a copy of a certificate of incorporation/formation and Form W-9, which they refused and sent another alarms, this time, purportedly from Microsoft tech support. I checked Microsoft tech support via online and learned that they would never list a number to call. I contacted Geek Squad, told them about the scam and had my computer cleaned and fixed. I reported the phone numbers to Microsoft Tech Support. These numbers are: 844-275-5751 (specifically linked to the purported Microsoft affiliation) and 800-845-6358 (Supportmatic/Tech Squad).
