Received postal mail to consolidate student loans by first creating FSA account. Called for more information and scammer changed my FSA log-in information I think using the “forgot password” link and I gave them 6 digit code, verified name, DOB, SSN. Scammer gave information regarding possible loan consolidation, asked for banking account routing number and account number, at that time I stopped conversation.

I received a letter in the mail offering student loan consolidation & payment reduction program from this scammer. I called the number and the female agent I spoke with (first name Nicole) told me that I qualified for the PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) program. She essentially pretended that I was approved and told me that my loans would be covered once I made a one time payment of $999 for a fee or three separate payment of $333. I gave her my bank information (that I am closing in return for a new account). At the end of the call she gave me a direct number that I can reach her at if I had any additional questions, 702-508-9721. After feeling like this was too good to be true, I then googled the number she gave me and it comes up as a listed google scam number. I then googled the company number 866-251-0003, and that number is not connected to any legitamte business from what I can see.

I received a letter offer in the mail for loan consolidation, to pay $400 for the first two months to set up and then $39/mo for 240 payments total and that would pay off my student loans. I called that customer service number and spoke to an agent who answered all of my questions and took my information/routing number and approved me. I was told I have to re-certify every year, but never received an email or anything in the mail, payments were still being taken out. When I tried to figure out where my tax form is for paying student loans, I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I tried 3 different numbers and the calls would drop and I tried their email they originally contacted me with, which failed to send. Looking into it, I realized Mohela (my loan servicer) was never receiving any payments and my balance never went down after paying for almost 2 years.

I received in the mail a "final notice" (this was the first mail i had ever received from this particular organization) about possible student loan debt consolidation from a legitimate governmental site, nslds.ed.gov. Filled with grandiose language and alluring possibilities in the first two paragraphs, they go on to say to go create a new FSA ID and to call their experts by 10/2/2020. All of the top portion looks official and legitimate, until you get to the fine print at the bottom. they say they are not affiliated with any government agencies, and are a fee based application assistance entity that only charges fees for their preparation and counsel services. I feel as though this is extraordinarily underhanded and misleading, as nowhere do they actually state their business name, email, or correspondence address (save for Sacramento, CA). With the glittering promise of saving "...thousands of dollars a year" it seems to me to be too good to be true, and offers no guarantees or likelihood percentage of people who would actually save money. Beware the fine print.

I first received a phone message for the Student Loan Forgiveness plan. A female left a message for me to call her back at (877) 336-5126. She said that I have been selected for student loan forgiveness plan. A few days later I received a letter in the mail. (View below)
