Received a voicemail message from a Wichita KS number 316-232-6041. Left a message in an AI voice telling me that my monthly bill of $25 was going to increase to $50 starting next month due to my promotional period expiring, and to call that number back to learn how I could maintain the discount (or something to that effect).

My Xfinity bill IS $25, and I have had the service for about a year, so it seemed reasonable that the current bill rate could be for the first year of service. So I thought it was legitimate. The person with the Indian (or whatever) accent spoke convincingly enough that I still believed this person was from Xfinity. He told me there was a promotion wherein I could maintain the $25 per month rate for the next 4 years IF I paid 18 months in advance. It would come to $450. I then would not have an Xfinity payment for 18 months. After that my monthly bill would again be $25.
The catch was that I had to pay using Target gift cards, because it is a co-promotion between Xfinity and Target. But also, I couldn't get the gift card for $450, I would have to get TWO gift cards, $225 each, to pay the $450 invoice. Meanwhile the Indian (or whatever) got my gmail email address and sent me an invoice in the amount of $450.
The invoice also said that if I pay by 5pm today with the 2 Target gift cards that I would ALSO receive a $75 VISA gift card.
Like a dummy, I still thought it was legit. So I went down to Safeway and purchased two $225 Target gift cards. Then I went to my car and called the 833-819-3553, which was supposedly the Xfinity billing department, so that I could pay that Indian the $450 bill using the two $225 Target gift cards.
The Indian at this number asked me for my phone number. I told him. He said no, that wasn't the correct number. I told him my number a second time. He said no, I need to tell him the phone number at which I received the call/voicemail telling me of the "promotion." He asked do I have a landline? I said NO, I don't have a landline, I have one number, the one I already gave you. He seemed to accept that. He wanted me to give him the Target gift card numbers. All of a sudden, it FINALLY dawned on me that this was a scam. I asked how do I know if they are really Xfinity and not a scam? He transferred me to his "supervisor," another Indian. He asked the phone number I had been contacted at. I told him my number. He said that was not the right number. At this point I realized that this was NOT right and hung up the phone. I am stuck with two $225 Target gift cards that I don't want or need that I was conned into purchasing, but I didn't give the fraudsters anything.

Here is what the email they sent said:

Said it was a target promo for 50% off for the next 3 years if I pay the next year up front. They paid my bill, they said to refund previous bill and it showed on my account. Said if I pay before 8pm that I'd get a 200$ visa gift card and then switched after I told them I was at work and wouldn't be able to until tomorrow and said I can still get the gift card if I pay between 11am and 1pm tomorrow. Sent an email with the invoice and the number to call to reveal the gift card codes, said to buy 3 @ 340$ each.

This was to get a discount on Spectrum, paying only $170 per month for TV, Internet, phone. To get this you had to pay 6 months in advance of $1,020.00 which can be paid by Target Credit Card or go to Target to purchase $1,020 in Target Gift Cards then call them at (855) 305-1525 (supposedly this number was Spectrum billing and finance) and give them the gift card numbers. If you within 4 hours you would get a $150 gift card otherwise only had 24 hours to get the promotion with Target Credit Card or Target Gift Cards.

He claimed he worked for Spectrum and they had a new discount of 50% off my current plan price, I just needed to pay 6 months up front. I thought everything checked out until he mentioned that I needed to go buy a "Target" gift card and use that to pay the 6 months bill. At that time I realized it was a scam and hung up the phone.

called tried to say lowing my spectrum billl from $167 to 80 a month for 36 months, then sent me email with confirmation code, and then tried to get me to go buy 2 target gift cards and then call back billing dept at 888-684-9303 to give them gift card numbers.

I got a call from +1 (209) 794-9191 “Dear customer this voicemail is to inform you that spectrum is removing the 40% discount offer on your monthly bill to reactivate this offer right now. Please call back on the number you see on your caller ID”

I call them back, this guy offers me “what everyone is getting offered” - offer below:

50% off my monthly bill ~$40ish

$40 a month for 1 year, must be paid lump sum $480

Then, years 2 & 3 are paid monthly on a per monthly basis of $40

if I pay the $480 within 24 hours I get a $100 Visa card

the guy on the phone said something about going to target and getting $480 WORTH OF GIFT CARDS PAY THE $480 SUM BECAUSE THEY ARE PARTNERED WITH LEADING RETAILERS???? <- biggest red flag

Once the guy proceeded to charge me $6 to sign up for the offer, he asked me to check my bank to see the $6 charge - BUT HE USED A BANK I DONT HAVE ANYMORE so I said forget this, don’t sign me up. I then got a call from +1 (855) 602-1828 claiming to be the boss man saying since I accepted and then declined they will go ahead and charge me $300 and then $200 for a total of $500 AND cancel my internet for 2 weeks unless I call back to sign up.

Missed a phone call and left a VM, called back and it was a mostly convincible sounding call center for Spectrum, had the different department choices, had similar Spectrum "on hold" music with promotional interjections, etc. They had our exact billing amounts, stated that the $40 promotional offerwas ending due to a withdraw/ending of a government program but were offering a 50% discount on services for 3 years, no contracts, but the first year had to be billed and paid up front. They provided a reference number and a 1-888 # to call the billing dept and complete to steps of the promo. Next they sent me supporting email and text. The email said Spectrum but came from a non spectrum email address, and the text sent through my phone created a new chat chain under a friends number and not the random 4-5 digit short number that Spectrum usually uses. I told the caller that I'd love to be in the program, but that I'd call the main Spectrum 800# number and ask for the billing dept to complete the promo. Spectrum verified that its a VERY elaborate scam and then I found the report of a similar case on ScamPulse.com site.

- Decatur, AL, USA

I was called by a "Spectrum agent" who stated they were running a 24 hour promotional deal. Pay 510 in the for of two target gift cards (255 each) and they paid the April bill (which it shows they did but when I contact the real Spectrum they stated it was a scam and would not clear the pending status) the NO payment for 6 months and a flat rate of 85 bill for the next three years. They emailed a contract to me and I received a text confirming April bill paid/ Then they called back today and stated that there was a problem with Walgreens and the cards wouldn't go through the stated I need to purchase another pair of 255 and the would send me a reimbursement check plus a 100 gift for my trouble. I knew then it wasn't right.

A person by the name of Tyler Belfort posed as a Spectrum Sale Agent. He was offering me promotion on my Spectrum service. He wanted me to buy (2) target gift cards and call the Spectrum Customer Service phone number he provided to get a discount offer on my Spectrum service. I didn't do that and I told him this is a scam. He got real mad and told me they were going to turn off my service and charge me a fee. Out of spite he somehow was able to get submit a payment of $299.00 against my Spectrum Account. I believe the transaction went through because I had automatic payment. That was so strange. I contacted Spectrum and my bank - Chase and advised them of this scam. The phone number he provided had the voice message like it was Spectrum. I want to report this because I want you to be aware of this scam.

- Saint Louis, MO, USA

I received a phone call from a company saying they were from Spectrum. They said they were running a promotion with Target. I needed to buy 2 Target gift cards, at $315 each. I could use these for payment. When I called to use them, they gave me an authorization code which identified this particular promotion. I did see that that amount was reflected on my bill. They said that the February bill would be credited toward my overall bill. I got the first text message confirming a portion of the gift card was applied, and my Feb. bill w[censored]d out. But then I got a text message, today, saying that the payment was declined.

Claim he was from Spectrum and offer spectrum for 40.00 a month for three years. The first year needed to be paid 480.00 up front with a Target credit card or Target gift cards., and they had partnered with Target to make this happen. They sent me an invoice, (nothing I would think Spectrum would send out) I have a copy.

1 (833) 838-1038 was used as "billing department". They somehow made an early payment on my actual Spectrum account using only my email, home address, phone number, and name. Normally Spectrum asks for this information to verify I am the account owner as well, so it didn't seem out of the ordinary to provide this info to them. They seemed super legit and I didn't catch on they were a scam until much later. They then tried to charge me $300 for "backing out of the deal". They wanted me to buy $420 of Target gift cards to send to them as part of a joint Target+Spectrum deal. I spoke to Sam Cartilage, extension 769. They even gave me an "authorization code" to verify with the billing department. He then said if I completed the payment within 50 minutes they would give me a $50 visa gift card. The man on the phone sounded 20-40 years old, and had an Indian accent.

- Lansing, MI, USA

The caller identified themselves as a representative of Spectrum. We had just called the actual Spectrum Company the day before asking if there were any promotions to lower the cost of our tv and internet bill. This person told us there was a promotion whereby we could lower our bill by half for three years, but we had to pay the first 6 months in advance using Target gift cards. They actually had the correct amount of our bill in their records. They told us if we paid the $600 in Target gift cards within the next 2 hours we would receive a $60 Visa gift card in the mail. We agreed to the set up, but called Spectrum to verify there was an offer. Turned out, our hunch was right. We just want others to know, so they don’t get dipped into spending $600 they don’t have!
