The scammers claimed my card had a suspicious amount charged on it out of California. They asked if I approved this transaction, I said no. Then they begin to ask questions about my personal info to verify my account and begin to issue me a new card. I called my banks real number and the scammer actually requested a credit increase on my account.

I received a call on my cell phone. The caller ID was the 800 number for my Citi credit card. The caller asked if I had purchased or had authorized someone to make three purchases in South Africa including airline tickets. When I said "No", the caller said as a security measure all my future internet purchases would be declined and I would receive a phone call to verify them. She asked if I was OK with that and I (foolishly) said "Yes". She then said that a replacement card would be issued and would arrive in 1 to 2 days. The caller then said that she needed to verify my identity and asked for the expiration date on my card. I replied "Absolutely not!" and the caller immediately ended the call.

I called Citi and they confirmed that there were not denied charges on my card and that their security department had not contacted me. The real representative from Citi thanked me for alerting them to this situation and the information would be forwarded to their security department.
