Not sure if a scam but highly suspicious. Notification email from PayPal.com:

"You received this email because your PayPal account processed a payout by small deposit confirmation. If you authorized it, no action is needed. If not, please contact PayPal Customer Care at +1(888) 338-0640 immediately to secure your account and request a refund". The email was legitimate from PayPal.

The deposit was for $0.03. Not purchases were recently made using this PayPal account. The only hit I can find on RLTY RUE is for a traveling hair dresser. https://rltyrue.square.site/ (may not be affiliated). Will update if there is a false purchase on the account. This may be a scam testing account numbers.

Paypal email came through with details that an automatic payment was stopped. I contacted the phone number listed, and they tried to get me to log in to my bank account to confirm my paypal security.

I received an email from [email protected] about an unauthorized purchase of an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Merchant name was listed as Laity Alive & Serving, customer service email was listed as "[email protected]" and the merchant message listed 805-500-8694 as the contact number. I have no clue how any of these numbers, companies, or merchants are related.

Fraudulent email claiming a new PayPal account was set up with my email address and an auto-generated user name ("receipt923458"). It listed a phone number to call if the account that was opened wasn't mine. Upon calling the number, the scammer asked for my email, and then asked for a verification code sent to my phone number. I hung up at that point.

- Fort Worth, TX, USA • Sep 02, 2025

Email sent looks like a legitimate PayPal email alerting to a transaction, except the recipient email is different from main user, support number is different from what found in Google, email substitutes random name in place of owner when addressing in body, and main link points to some preselected option to add another user.

I received an email earlier today, the second one of these phishing attempts to land in my inbox this month, with the following message...

"Account Message: Recently, $910.45 was logged with a new profile. If not yours, reach out at (805) 500-8413. If fine, you may ignore. Auto pending bill accepted from this account. Your New Account added you to the Crypto Wallet account."

The last time, I reported it to a customer service rep at PayPal using the actual PayPal phone number and not the one listed in the body of the email. She recommended that I forward it to the PayPal security team that time, so I did the same again.

But I am growing more and more concerned about these kinds of attempts, because apart from the phone number, the rest of the email looks completely legitimate, from the email address to the logos to the links at the bottom.

The subject/thumbnail reads, "Payment Warning: A transaction of $823.19 to Gemini.com was detected. If this wasn't you, please call (805)500-3082 to stop the payment. Protecting you from fraud is our priority. invited you as a developer"

It continues: "You have an invite from Payment Warning: A transaction of $823.19 to Gemini.com..(same as above)." Under the email body, it has in small letters: "Ready to get coding? Create a PayPal account to review the invite. (It expires in 30 days!)"
