I received an email indicating "Recurring Payment Reactivated". The email appears to be from [email protected]. The email listed someone else’s name, not mine. It indicated that a recurring payment would start in 4 days, for the amount of ¥4999.00 JPY. The "Message from Merchant" section says "A transaction of ????????.???? USD was detected. If this wasn’t you, please call 805-500-8964 (??????) ??????-???????? to stop the payment". This is an apparent attempt to get people to call the number and presumably try to steal money using that interaction. All other links in the PayPal-format message seem legitimate.

At a glance, a convincing spoof email with an attempt to get a user to call the number, presumably connecting you with the scammer. The embedded links seemed to go to the PayPal site, most likely to throw off the people into actually calling the number.
