Type of a scam Tech Support

Called on a "clean" number (no prior reported scams) claiming my email password was attempted to be changed by hackers who had gained access to my home network. When asked about my current tech support company, they provided me with a false screen print alleging reported scams associated with their support number. Requested access to my computers to ensure no damage had been done and to secure the network. Requested $3,000 to do the job with a lifetime support contract, and referenced a Dell security solution. I stupidly granted them access to my laptop and they ran a few security scans using Malware Bytes and CCleaner and did not install the Dell security solution. They also set up an elaborate scheme by providing me with a password I must request be provided by anyone calling me about technical support for my computers, and if not provided, to simply hang up. These people are very skilled. DO NOT PROVIDE THEM ANY ACCESS AND HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. They request payment by check only and only leave voice mail messages if they are unable to speak with you directly. There is nothing in writing , via email or snailmail. Further Google searches on their associated phone numbers and provided address (for sending my check/payment) and additional support email revealed this scam.

I was able to undo all of the "work" provided by the scammers by restoring my laptop to an earlier point in time and having my current tech support complete a scan and other routine clean-up work. Needless to say, I am not sending them any payment.
