A collector called my brother this afternoon claiming he owned money from not signing a title release form for a 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport that he signed for over 10 years ago. The vehicle was repossessed around 2009. He doesn't have anything on his credit report regarding this vehicle. They told him they were going to put him on a 1099 and also take money out of his pay check. They said they handle civil litigation and are jot a debt collector. They also said they would give him a break if he had any hardships during covid. They originally asked for $11,475.60 but gave him a discount and then asked for $4,053 then said he can give a counter offer of $2,553.20 for covid hardships. They said if he paid now they get all the paper work over to the credit union. They sent him 2 emails trying to get his signature. My brother called the number they provided but was not in service and tried to look them up and couldn't find them. He asked for a website and they gave him a website (www.capfs.com) saying they handle the financial part of it. He called the number associated with it and it they told him that it sounds like a scam. If you look up their name a bunch of articles pop up saying its a scam. My brother mentioned that to them and the guy on the phone got flustered and put him on hold.
