I received a phone call from a "Law Office" named Berg & Associates claiming that they were going to be sending me legal documents to my home and work between 11am and 2:30pm the following day, which would require a signature, and that if I needed this rerouted to call them and that this would serve as a notice for a debt collection. I called the number back and spoke with the attorney's "assistant" who told me that I was be sued over a credit card I had with Discover Card Matrix Cerulean in 2013 and that with court costs it would be of $4k and that they would be sending me documentation stating that they were going to garnish my wages and had approval to garnish for $300+ per month. I have been back and forth with whether this is a legitimate lawsuit and will be calling the phone number back to verify with some questions of my own. When I google "Berg & Associates" it comes up with a completely different phone number and law office. After agreeing to settle and pay them monthly I received paperwork from "LP Services Group" via email with only a phone number and fax number on the "contract". I also never received the documents they claimed they were sending me. I will be investigating this further, but I think this is just a collection agency using scare tactics to get me to pay. I set up the payments and they took out the first month and I investigated more and realized that this could be a scam. I have since called them back and told them to not take any more money from my account and that if they did, I would be suing them myself. They screamed at me and told that was fine, they would much rather garnish my wages. They then returned the money to my account that they previously took out. I don't believe any law office would resort to this sort of abuse to get money but I would love to have this investigated further.
