I received an email from what I thought was Ace Hardware. It was a customer satisfaction survey that said I could pick a prize for completing the survey. I just had to pay shipping and handling. I received the prize shortly afterwards. While going through my bank records, I came across two charges totally about $200. I called the number on the first transaction and asked the person first what was the name of the company and did not get an answer, instead they wanted my phone number and email so they could research. When they came back on the line, they said since I didn't respond in fourteen days they were charging me $90 plus for the trinket they had sent. I strongly disagreed and they hung up. Subsequent phone calls, I was hung up on. I called the second number on the second charge and got the same run around. In the end I canceled my debit card to prevent any more charges.

Received an email from Ace Hardware with this now apparently bogus email address, ; offering a reward for taking their survey. After taking the survey it offered multiple items free with payment of shipping. The item I selected said only 1 item left and a shipping cost of $2.95. I was prompted to entered payment information with my card number including the cvv number. After hitting enter on the payment it showed purchase of the item at $0.00 and shipping $9.95 for a total of 9.95 I was sent a confirmation email from Blue Ice club thanking me for the $9.95 club membership fee saying that I had earned the reward of entering a sweepstake to win the item that I had supposedly paid the shipping fee on with no indication of when this sweepstake drawing would be held. I immediately tried to call to complain and cancel the transaction to no avail so I emailed them at "[email protected]" requesting cancellation or refund of my 9.99 payment. I also advised them that I would be filling a complaint with BBB.

After applying for a Virtual Assistant position with ACE Hardware on LinkedIn, I immediately received an acceptance email from this person. However, there was no return address or phone number and his LinkedIn profile was immediately deleted after I asked for his phone number. The red flag for me was the fact that the letter "j" in his name was not capitalized. This was the acceptance letter he sent:

After a thorough review of your resume, I am pleased to announce that you are offered the position of Virtual Assistant. Your first assignment will begin on September 1st, 2019. You will report after the completion of each assignment to me via my email, and you will be expected to provide with 6-7 hours of work per week.

The details of the assignment to be carried out from your location from time to time are listed below:

- Booking for conferences,

- Booking for travels

- Booking for hotels

All these tasks shall be completed using our licensed application software which will be supplied to you by our independent developer.

The following skills are required:

- Good communications skills via Text, Email and Chat.

The pay for this position will be $400 USD per week and $30 will be added to every extra hour. You will be given an assignment per week. This amount will

be paid by check. Interview is not required for this position as this is a part-time position.

This role will be considered part-time, so you will not be eligible for overtime compensation. The agreement between you and me will be classified as at-will, which means either party may terminate the agreement at any time, for any reason, with or without notice.
