My wife received a phone call today asking here to renew her computer network security today for $1500. She told me she had paid for this service for her laptop back in 2015 with her mom's credit card for $599. He verified her mom's full name and her's. I never knew about this. He told her to call him back at 1 800-311-9043 and he would answer at the help desk. She did. She put him on speakerphone and he had a heavy Indian accent. I quietly told her to cancel any renewal and then started to ask her what she exactly paid for. She was trying to delete any security program from her computer and the person said he would help her but that she needed to go to a zoom.us website to "join the cancellation". This verbiage made no sense to me and I started talking to the person. He became defensive and asked who I was. My wife had brought up the website but I told her not to hit install on a supposed Zoom program install pop up. I asked him why he needed Zoom to cancel a subscription and he stayed defensive trying to reverse the question on me. I asked what company he represented and he didn't want to say, claiming he could not give his details. He finally said Live Technologies. I had my wife stall him pretending to continue on while I looked up any connected scam and found the ScamPulse.com warning and others. I got back on the phone with him and he kept trying to talk over me, wanting my wife back on the phone. I read him the warning in a yell over the phone and proceeded to chew him out for being a thief. He started to laugh and I hung up on him. My wife went to the website but did not install from the prompt. I made her change her laptop password but now neither one will work. I suspect something made it in regardless. The credit card used in 2015 is no longer valid.
