I listed a gaming keyboard on Facebook Marketplace for $125. I got a FB Messenger notification from someone named Kelvin interested in the item. He wanted to use Zelle for payment. I sent him my email address for him to send money and he sent a screenshot verification. I then got an email that because of the amount of the item, I needed to upgrade to a Zelle business account. To do this I would need to refund his $125 but once that was done I would receive $250 (but I NEVER received his original $125!!). I stupidly ended up doing the $125 because I was in a hurry to get out to a doctor appointment. Meanwhile, he called me multiple times on the messenger app which after the first call, I told him I was in a hurry to get to a doctor appointment. Kept calling all through my appointment. While at said appointment, when I had a minute to think about all of it, and again look at my email, I find another email telling me I needed to send even more money. I was FINALLY able to hear my spidey sense tell me this was a scam!!! I immediately reached out to my bank and asked them if this was not a scam but they knew it was. I submitted all the emails, screenshots, etc. that I had been quick enough to save and filed a fraud case with them. I also filed a fraud case with the federal computer fraud people as my bank suggested. My bank refused to refund my money because they couldn't recover it from "Kelvin's" bank. I recently filed a scam case with Zellepay. So, I want to just make my fellow North Carolinians aware that your bank and Zellepay will bear no responsibility in trying to get your money back for a scam through Zellepay. DO NOT USE!!
