I am pretty sure I had an attempted scammer this morning from someone claiming to be from YP. I signed up for a free listing last night for my new business and this morning I noted about a dozen missed calls, but no messages. It rang again and I answered. The guy (said his name was Vince Martinez) had a very thick accent, but he did not sound like a Martinez to me. Anyway, he kept trying to get me to buy more advertising and I kept telling him no and told him he was false advertising and hung up. I did report it to the FTC on their website this morning. All the numbers that called were out of Florida. Is there anything else I need to do? I read that this was a scam that has been going on for several years. I wish I'd known ahead of time, so I could've just ignored it. Now I'm worried what they may try next.

A man called our business claiming to be calling from a company called YP. He claims that we owe money to YP for an outstanding balance on an account for over $1800.00. He said that if we didn't pay the money that we would receive a summons to appear in court in Canada. We told him we did not have a contract of any type with YP because of this same type of scam we experienced in the past. He said that this was a balance on a five year contract of which we had only paid 3 years and that we owed for 2 more years. When asked for documentation of such a contract he replied that "it was too late to send documentation" and that we should pay immediately. We contacted YP and they confirmed that we had no balance and that we had indeed cancelled our contract with them in 2015. We continued to receive harassing phone calls from this man. We contacted the Federal Trade Commission , the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Tennessee State Attorney General's Office, our local law enforcement authorities, the Tennessee Regulatory Authority and now we are filing this complaint with the BBB. This YP company or its copycat, is very threatening and are unrelenting in their harassment. We DO NOT have any such contract with this company and we wish to know how to stop this fraudulent activity. Thank you for any help you can offer to stop these people!! We have not paid any such amount to these people because we are being told by the above authorities that this is a scam.

Received a phone call from (888) 726-5794 John Woods stating I owed $1400 for a past due bill for advertising that I had no idea about. He said that if I paid immediately, he could deduct $700 off of the bill and I would only owe $700. I asked for proof of purchase and he will not send it.
